trkrchk - 1038 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) yeah, if you have cats already.. I would not worry about it.. I have 4 cats and I have changed the litter during all four pregnancies and everything is fine. Except for the baby withthe 3rd ear. LOL just kidding

The issue is that you don't want to pick up toxoplasmosis from your cat's fecal matter. If you HAVE to be the one to change the litter box, wear gloves and a dust mask. Good luck!

MelissaJoanne - 1038 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Cat feces carries a parasite called toxoplasmosis, as mentioned by others. Most people that have a cat are already immune to it. If this is your first cat ever, and you've never been around cats, you likely don't have an immunity built up yet. As long as you don't directly touch cat feces, you and baby will be fine. Either have someone else change the cat litter, or wear gloves if you change it yourself.

Bangel - 1038 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) the kitten thing maybe cause since he's new to you, you haven't really been exposed to the toxiplasmawhatnot, lol, much yet. My two cats are old, so probably didn't have much to worry about, but still made DH clean the litter box throughout pregnancy just in case.

kimmarie - 1039 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had two cats during my pregnancy. I wore gloves and a mask when I cleaned the litter box and I was fine.

hay1230 - 1039 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have a kitty and my husbands been deployed the majority of my pregnancy, so I'm left to clean out his box, I wear gloves and wash my hands immedietly after. But if your really worried about you can bring your cat to the vet, bring a fecal sample, and they can tell you if your cat even has it.. But unless you plan on playing in your kitties box, like the gal said below, you'll be fine!

tassie-mum - 1039 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) All cats are meant to be dangerous because of a bacteria contained in some cats poo called toxiplasmawhatnot. Its a bacteria which can really hurt the baby but not all cats have the certain bacteria. I have a cat but I just don't clean the litter tray out and I wash my hands a lot, as does my partner. So just avoid the kitty poo and wash your hands a lot and you'll be fine =)
