I always start with talking and explaining but, a child id a child I will pop. A pop may not be our thing but I refuse to have a 4 ear old snapping off or not doing as they are told.

Its the age. My granddaughter is 4 and the same way. It is time for time out. What I have done with her since she is at my house all the time is I explain to her what she has done and why it is not nice. I have a timer and I put a chair in front of a full length mirror and set her then in one of her chairs with the timer set to 4 minutes for her age. I tell her when it goes off she can get up. The mirror is to make her look at herself and see that she was disrespectful. The first day she was there at least 6 times. We are now down to maybe once a week. She knows when I say get the timer what it means. Better to stop now or she will teach to your other child. She is just trying the boundrary line. Also its a good thing to be consistant with it. Meaning everyone should not allow this behavior. so she knows it will not be tolerated.

it may just be the age. If its really out of hand you can always take your child to the doctor and see if they need to see a behaviourist or something. My son is 5 and he is going to see one in july... he has out of control anger... whenever he out of the house he turns into the devil.. he poops and pees his pants still and sits in it.. he hits the teacher and students almost daily... its bad... i guess it depends on w hat exactly your child is doing

Welcome to four years old! My son is four and did the same. It's kinda a power thing. They are getting their own thoughts and desires and realizing they don't have to do what they're told. Look into Love and Logic and whatever you choose to do, be consistent to a tee. One trick is to make it seem like her idea. But, sometimes they need to hear "because I said and I'm the mom". We taught my son how to compromise (a little of what you want and a little of what I want). But again, sometimes it's just because I said so. We also spank because disrespect is just not ok. It really is a phase. My son is nearly five and it is much better now.
