Single Umbilical Artery with no anomalies Added: 1021 days ago. Added by: tennmom Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I am in my 21st week and at my first ultrasound scan, we discovered that we have a single umbilical artery. Our quad screen test came back negative and all others scans during the ultrasound showed no signs of problems with the heart, kidneys, brain or spine. However, i am so worried b/c everything on the internet is all bad and there doesn`t seem to be very many success stories. My doctor isn`t worried and i am trying not to, not easy though. Anyone experienced something similar to this?

my daughter is 6 months and had SUA and no further complications, i also hate the internet for the same reasons as jayds mom. my daughter was born at 39w1d and was 8lbs 13oz. the moist common complication from it is kidney problems so as long as your babys scans are good you shouldnt have anything to worry about. i was followed closely and had lots of extra ultrasounds and ended up with NSTS weekly at 32 and bi weekly at 36. i ended up with an emergency c-section because she was in distress and i had pre-e but it was NOT related to the SUA

My son is 6 months old. He had SUA. I hate the internet. It only ever shows horror stories (why would people post anything but?). He was born at 39W 2D and was 7 lbs 13 oz. He is now 20 lbs and 29.5 inches long. He is in the 105th percentile. No problems with him at all. My ob told me the SUA is actually one of the most common "defects" out there, and that the majority of babies work out great. It certainly does not mean your baby will have problems. My dr's didn't even tell me about it in the beginning. I found out at 36 weeks because an ultrasound tech mentioned it. When I brought it up to the dr she said they didn't tell me because all the other tests I had came out negative, so there was no reason to tell me. I think I was better off when I didn't know.

im 35 weeks and my baby has a single umbilical artery too. please dont read anything on the net as it is all negitive and scarey. i havent had an amnio, because i wouldnt want to put the baby at risk, but had all the screening blood tests and was low risk for everything. i have also had growth scans and to check for anything physically wrong, and all seems fine. there is a forum on here under birth defects, its the top one, look it up, your not alone so please dont worry xxx
