Baby drinking alot or not??? Added: 1016 days ago. Added by: LizetteCheree Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Andriette will be 4 months on the 19th and she is on formula(nestle nan1-same as good start). She drinks 125ml-4 and half oz 8 times a day, thats like every 3 hours, sometimes she will go 5 hours but that happens once in a blue moon. She has been drinking exactly this much since she is 6 weeks old.She does and cant take more than that amount, ive tried numerous times. The clinic sister says she drinks way too much and i should give her rooibos tea as substitute and i did but it doesnt make a diffrence. She said i must not give any type of solids, not even rice cereal before 6 months. Now i ask u what should i do??I have been giving her nestle cerelac banana once a day but doesnt seem to make a diffrence either.Im clueless.p.s she is gaining weight nicely, currently 13 lbs(born 5.95 lbs). She is tall too. Please some advice would be appreciated.tia:-)

My 2yr old had the same thing happen...He is the appropriate weight for his age and always has been..he's tall though. Dont worry about it,as long as shes growing at a steady pace shes fine.

i have a son who just turned 4 mos as well...and he is on the same eating schedule as yours only hes been drinking 6 oz since he was a month old! his schedule hasnt changed at all. the nurse told me he is eating too much but i feel that a baby will take what they need, nothing more nothing less. so i let him tell me when hes hungry, and he stops if hes full or cries if hes still hungry. hes growing well so what's the problem? also, giving cereal isn't a "must not" before 6 mos(at least not for me:))? iv started both my kids on it at 4 mos or sooner...as did my mother with her 5 kids and it actually keeps my baby satisfied and sleeping through the night! i wouldn't worry about it if ur baby is healthy and growing!

Yah i dont think its too much, babies eat when they are hungry, cant contorl it. I know you dr said not to start solids. but you could try it. I started my little guy on rice cereal at 3 months and he was on jar food at 4 months and now he is 6 months and on stage 2 jar food. My doctor told me too. she said they dont like to start early on the soilds becuase it can lead to allgeries but that my little guy was ready for it. So many you could consider starting rice cereal at least. Oh my little guy drinks 6 oz every 3-4 hours too.

While those are small frequent amounts, I don't think it's too much. If I'm reading right, it comes out to be about 36oz in a 24 hour period. That is on the higher side, but not bad. Is it getting hot for the season where you live? That's how my babies ate before solids. They were creeping up and up in ounces per day but still weren't satisfied. That's when I put them on cereal, oatmeal, fruits and veggies. I had them eat more on a breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime snack routine. I did this quite a while ago, but then again I'm not real into DRs and their advice. In my opinion, my pediatrician is great for vaccines and illness, but nothing more. Not to say he's not a great guy lol! Overall, I wouldn't worry.

According to this site, which is just an estimate a baby at 4 months should be drinking 24 - 32 in a day. Mine drank more like 26-36 at times. some drink less more times a day or more less times a day, its the total per day to pay attention to. (())

oh wait, did your post mean 4.5 oz per feeding? That sounds perfect!! That is DEF not to much!! That is how much she should be eating :) Your clinic sister is wrong IMO (()) (what is that?)

Water can be VERY dangerous. If you do it cant be any more then one oz per month of age a day. It flushes the system of electrolites that are very important. It was once considered safe but is no longer. How many ml's is this to oz? My boys ate about 3-4 oz every 2-3 hours at 6 weeks and about 5-7 oz every 3 hours at 4 months. Babies drink what they need so I always pay little attention to what non doc says. Since I dont know how many oz ml's are I cant say if it is to much or to little. If you feel she shouldnt be hungry then give her a pacifier, she may just want to suck and not nec be hungry. If she isnt drinking enough make sure she is getting the right sized nipple, I was stage 2 at 2 weeks and stage 3 at about 6 months. (())

Perhaps she is thirsty sometimes and not hungry? Have you tried giving her some cooled boiled water just 1 - 2 oz. I've been told that sometimes formula fed babies need water sometimes. I have to give my son some water and that seems to help him, he is almost 4 months old. Not sure if this is going to help but can't think of anything else you could try.
