baby's with moms on insulin are usually bigger. :) It's safe. I had a CS with my son TJ and likely will have one with this baby... here's a tip. Whenever you have pain after your CS REQUEST Pain meds. YOu can safely have them and breast feed. and I'm talking Vicoden and stuff... they may try to give you Ibuprofen but if you can barely walk or move without pain, you have the right to request pain meds. make sure you request them EARLY since most hospitals take a while to get it to you.

I had gd and was on insulin, my sugar levels was for the most part under control and I did not have to have a c sections. My Midwife said that for people with GD, they should have there baby in the 39th week. before that the lungs are not as developed and after that the placenta depletes faster than in pregnant people without GD. So I would not have your baby earlier than that. I was induced. Could be that your doctor wants a csection because of the size of your baby, has the baby been measuring large?

I was on insulin for GD from 12 wks on. I had a c section not due to GD since it was well controlled. I had a c section with my first pregnancies due to large baby head and small pelvis, so I decided not to go thru 30 hours of labor just to end up with a c section due to head size. My regular ob and high risk ob said the reason they do c sections in some GD patients is to have better control over your blood sugar levels. If you are in a long labor and not able to eat they have to keep a close eye on your levels so you do not go too high or too low. If they do a c section it is because they feel can deliver the baby quickly and not having issues of you dropping or going to high. Most of the time they will have schedule for a early morning c section so you would only take half dose of your bedtime insulin so you will be on the high side in the morning and they do not have to worry about you dropping during labor, they could do the surgery and get your levels back to normal after the deliver. I had GD with both babies, one controlled by diet and other by insulin. So if you have questions please mssg. I would be glad to help. Both babies are perfectly healthy no sugar issues.

Even if you have to deliver early.. is there any particular reason why you have to have a c-section?!?! I think if you have GD then your baby can be larger than average, but nothing unmanageable - particularly if you are delivering early... I'd question that first and foremost - c-sections are MAJOR abdominal surgery and will mean subsequent pregnancies may have to be delivered via section as opposed to vaginally.. Definitely questions EVERYTHING and seek a second opinion if you are uncomfortable or unsure of what information your Ob/Gyn is giving you. This is YOUR body and YOUR baby and YOUR pregnancy and YOUR experience.. It's never too late to change and go somewhere else or to someone else..
