Okay, this may seem like a strange question. But after my daughter was born I think I may have suffered from postpardom depression. Now I`m pregnant again and am fearful that I will go through this again. I have heard that most people are put on zoloft to deal with it. But I worry about being put on anti depressants right after giving birth because I thought that some anti depressants caused weight gain. And I`m pretty sure that gaining weight after I have just given birth would just make me more depressed. So I`m curious if there are things that you can take for postpardom depression that don`t cause weight gain.

Try non medicated intervetions such as counseling, or spending a hour a day in the sun (difficult if wrong season lol) and excersize is proven to help as well, and it will do the opposite of make you gain weight. So seriosly try to steer clear of anti-depressants at all. I have a few people I know who got on anti depressents and they said they HATE the way they made them feel because they were even themself while on the drug. So anyway... very bad for you. Hope you take this seriously. Good Luck.

Remember every woman is different, so you never know unless you have tried it. "Medical literature generally agrees that Paxil, Zoloft, Remeron and Luvox appear to cause the most weight gain, with Prozac and Welbutrin sometimes causing weight decrease. However, many people still gain weight with any of the classes of antidepressant drugs. Rule of thumb: The higher the dosage of medication, the more likely weight gain will be an issue. Of course, this is not the case for every woman, and you should consult your own doctor about the side effects of any medication."

wisfarmgirl - 1007 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My appetite is lower when I'm on Zoloft, so I wouldn't worry about weight gain with it. It works great too. I've taken it in the past for my OCD and for anxiety. I already have my prescription that I'm going to start the day the baby is born b/c I got the weepies pretty bad when I had my son so I'm being proactive this time. One thing that worked for me was to take it first thing in the morning with breakfast (don't take it on an empty stomach). Also you can take drug holidays due to the side effects. And remember if you're just taking it for PPD you can ween yourself off after a few months. Good luck!
