My son turned 9 months old yesterday and is still not crawling..not even close..He can stand with assistance but thats it. He never sat until 7 months either. He also only says da-da-da but nothing else he babbles a lot but not clear words. Do you think he is behind I hear people saying their kids are walking at 9 months and mine isnt even crawling! Also a friend of mine has an 8 month old and my friend says that she says a couple different words. Just curious if I should be asking my doctor or not! Thanks for any input!!

gr8scottswife - 999 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You're fine. He's not behind.

mellowyellow - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My daughter Quinn started crawling right on 9 months. My first born Mitchell was 11 months when he started crawling. I think that crawling also depends on personality type too. Mitchell was a very placid little man, quite happy to just sit around and take it all in like a little sponge. He also was a heavier baby, so I think it took him a bit longer to develop the musculature to haul himself around. We read to our little guy in utero and beyond, but he never really had alot to say. I was beginning to get worried when at 18 months he had fewer than 10 words beside mom and dad. Then, one day I was saying to him, look at the horse going for a ride in the trailer. He turned his serious little face to me and said "its not a trailer mummy, its a float". Now how the heck did he know that!!! LOL As long as he is obviously hearing you ok and babbling I wouldn't be concerned. Good luck and enjoy your little man:)

ashysmm1 - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Nope, he's not behind my daughter didn't start crawling till she was 10mths old, sitting up was at 6mths old and walking she didn't start walking till she was 14 mths old. she was born on her due date but only weighed 5lbz 14 oz. it just takes babies longer to walk, crawl, and talk now all she does is goes around the house babbling on just give it time....

mylittleman - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Nope, he's not behind. My son didn't sit on his own till 7ish months, crawled around 10 months and walked more around 13-14 months! He still only says a couple words clearly but he knows what words mean and he has usually says like one part of a word for things...he's almost 17 months now. Your pediatrician can actually go over a HUGE list of things that kids your babies age normally do and what percentages of them do it. We were a little concerned too but after he did that, no more worries!!

karenbg - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) okay, sorry I can't get that second entry out.

karenbg - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I do have to add in that crawling IS considered a motor milestone and if he skips that, you should talk to your pediatrician. More kids are missing that milestone because of the back to sleep campaign which is in place for obvious reasons but that is also why tummy time is so important..it helps to build lots of other prerequisite skills and motor foundations for further motor development. Feel free to message me if you have questions.

karenbg - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) First of all let me assure you he is NOT DELAYED. As a therapist that has worked on motor skill development for 10 years, I have fielded this question over and over again, and it stems from mommies comparing their kids to other babies who are advanced, making it seem like yours might be delayed. But how would you know? It's not like pediatricians give handouts that outline when milestones should be achieved by; look it up on the internet and you'll find a RANGE of age norms for milestones. While some kids will develop some of these skills earlier, typical timeframes for motor skills to develop are: rolling belly to back-4 months; rolling back to belly-6 months; sitting-8 months; crawling-10 months; standing unsupported-12 months; walking 12-18 months (quite a range!!!). You can always bring it up to your pediatrician if it is a concern and I guarantee s/he will allay your concerns by telling you that your baby is exactly where he should be.

M2G - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Nope. Babies generally will crawl hands and knees between 8-11 months. My daughter is 8.5 months and has no desire to crawl.

mama-sl0p - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Don't listen to arkansastechmommy your baby is NOT behind!!! 9 months is still young and he will reach all milestones at his own rate. If your Dr has concerns that's all that matters :)

kitkatb - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) your baby is not behind, some babies don't crawl, they skip right to walking. Crawling is not a milestone, and 9 months is not too common for babies to walk.

aidensmommy1 - 1000 days ago Thanks everyone for your comments..by the way he was a week early but thats still considered full term, and yes he is my first born so I probably do hold him to much! :) He has a doc appt on friday so ill will just mention my concern and see what the doc says! Thanks again!

arkansastechmommy - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) To me, it sounds like he is kind of behind, but that is just comparing to my son & the other children I've been around... Always keep in mind that every child is different.

happyforest - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my brother never crawled, he went from just rolling around and pulling up to walking!

jennymomof3 - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) No I don't think he's behind. All children progress at thier own rate. You never know he might just skip crawling and go straight to walking. Don't worry if the doctor is not concerned than you shouldn't be.

mom2twogirls - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I wouldnt worry about it. Was he full term? My daughter was a 28wk preemie and she will be 11 months the 23rd and she isnt crawling yet either. Let alone walking. She babbles a lot too, saying things such as "Da Da Da" and "Nana" and "Ba Ba" and "Hi" and "huh?" lol

RobinG - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Sounds right on track to me :) Those that walk at 9 months are early walkers. Most dont walk til 12 months. Every baby is different and your son is def like my older two, my 3rd is behind and your son is way ahead of where he was :)

Cindie - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) That can be normal... Some kids develop differently. I didn't walk til I was almost 2 yrs old... and I didnt' crawl til the DAY before!

MrsStrickland74 - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I don't think he is delayed. I personally didn't crawl at all. I went straight to walking, so he may actually just skip the crawling. A lot of babies don't start walking until after a year. A family member's baby just turned a year old a couple days ago and he doesn't walk or even try to walk. He babbles some also but nothing definite. I really do think your son is doing just fine.

Gigantor - 1000 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Usually 90% of babies crawl by 11-12 months of age. If he is your firstborn and you hold him a lot that can delay his crawling abilities.
