heyy my laila ate 4 oz. from the hopital and now at 2 months she eats 5 oz. if she wants it give it to her she will not eat if she isn't hungry trust me...laila's doc said that if she can eat it give it to her don't worry she's fine:) o and about the pooping problem Laila was the same way and her doc told me that newborns have to get used to the way their body works cus laila was doing the exact same thing and at about 4 weeks she was fine and has been ever since i'm sure she just has to get used to it don't worry:)

my son was eating 4oz at 2 weeks. if they are hungry, feed them. i also don't believe in limiting their intake. as for the hurting when they have to poop, if she is pooping everyday or every few days, shes not constipated. my son would scream because of gas pains and when he pooped at first but i personally think its because at that young, they have no idea what that feeling is (needing to poop or gas pains) so they get upset.

She's probably going through a growth spurt. I don't believe in limiting their intake. As long as she isn't spitting up alot then feed her what she will take.

my son went from eating 1.5 ounces at birth to 4 ounces by 2 weeks. He was at 6 ounces by a 5 weeks. I feed him what he wants, he knows if hes hungry.

I TOTALLY disagree with the water method. We talked to our doc about that, cuz our boys had the same issue, and he said they advise against water at all because it can sit in their kidneys and cause major problems like infection. Obviously not all cases are this way but its a risk I wasn't willin to take. Our pediatrician said to give our boys an ounce of prune juice everyday to keep them goin! And he said to get regular prune not the baby kind (gerber) and just mix it with their formula. So far its working for us! But it does take a few hours for the first intial time. As far as the feedings I think your doing the right thing and your baby will probably eat more once she can poop normally!

prune juice, mix a little with water and feed her a little. that helped my son when he was a newborn. her hunger ques, could be gas, or something like it. we had a similar problem when aidan was a newborn, and i remember thinking about what the teacher in my parenting class said about over feeding.. she told us to imagine we just drank a whole bottle of water, and then she gave us another one and we drank that one too, and then looking at a 3rd, how would we feel... waterlogged... and not to assume that just because the baby looks hungry that it is. now with that said, every situation is different. and your baby might very well be hungry. just wanted to let you know an alternative. good luck. :)

lol I guess you have your answer....who needs doctors when you have the true professionals ha. Just wanted to add as well, better your baby wants more, than not at all. My son struggled to do 3oz at 10 weeks and stopped gaining weight, so as long as your baby is happy, healthy and satisfied then you are going everything right x

try gradually switching formula. mix the bottles half and half until she gets used to it and started using less regular formula and more gentle formula. hopefully this will work! i think 3-4 oz is fine if thats how hungry your baby is! i have VERY hungry boy, and he has always eaten a lot and we had to start solids at 3 months bc a liquid diet just wasnt enough for him. you could try giving an ounce of juice (apple, apple-prune, or pear) to see if it would help her go. it ALWAYS worked for my son. if that doesnt work in a few hours give her another ounce. :)

My sons at 2 weeks ate 4 oz or more each feed :) There is a BIG difernece in feedings at one week versus two weeks old and it is expected that the amount would increase and my boys all ate 3 oz at one week so I disagree with your doc. Docs arent always right ((hugs)) Its not ok to not feed her if she needs more (((hugs))) I'd give her 4 oz or at least 3.5. Doc told me when bottle is emptied to the last drizzle and they still are sucking for more they often need more. If baby pushes out bottle and there is 1/2 oz then you have found the right amount to feed based on amouth they really consumed :)

My 36 weeker preemies were taking 4-4.5oz feedings at 2 weeks old- up from just 1/2oz feedings at birth! I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this. I will tell you though, by 4-5 weeks of age they were eating 42+oz in a 24 hour period, still not satisfied, and I had to introduce cereal at that point. Don't worry about how much she is eating. On the issue of the formula...she refused it because you switched her abruptly. LOL Think of it like a dog, when you switch their food you start with 3/4 old food, 1/4 new food...then 1/2 old food and 1/2 new food...then 1/4 old food and 3/4 new food- before you make a complete transition. Do the same with the formula. Also, be sure that the brand of gentle formula is the same brand as the other regular formula. And be sure that you are preparing and serving it the same way (same bottle, heated, ect.). If you persist she will stop refusing. I use Enfamil Gentle Ease, because I had the same problem as you. I highly recommend! Good luck :o)

I just gave my LO the amount of feed he needs, don't worry about it, she wouldn't ask for it if she didn't need it.

Personally I think you cannot overfeed a newborn baby. They know how much they want to eat. If your baby requires more, give her more. And usually formula fed babies have a more difficult time at the beginning with no.2. Regardless, as previously said stimulation can help. I did it too!-:) Good lUck!

are you breastfeeding or formula....my son ate 4-5 oz. by the time he was a week old....if she's hungry, she will eat.so i wouldnt worry about overfeeding her...maybe she's just gunna be a chunky baby lol. as far as the poop goes...my son is the same way, and still is and he's 4 months + 1 week old now...we tried every single formula there is available...the only one that made his poop better was the nutramigen(but its double the price) and i actually shouldnt say it made him better, it just gave him diahrrea baddd.so now, if he doesnt go by himself, ill "make" him go at the end of the day(so it isnt sitting in there for 2 days getting all hard and stuff).its still hard sometimes but its much easier for him and he is sooo much happier after i make him go...(i use a thermometer and some vaseline, i guess it helps stimulate his "bowels" lol. i hope everything gets better!! let me know if any of this helps you at all. congrats on the new baby!

Personally I hate it when a doctor says you are feeding your baby TOO much, sorry but shut the hell up, idiot doc. How the hell does he know if the baby is hungry or not. How would the doctor like it if he was eating then I took his food away and said sorry, you have eaten too much. Your baby will only drink what s/he needs, a baby cannot be "greedy" quite obviously your child wants more, so to me there is not harm in it. Also for the constipation I was advised to give just 1/2 to 1oz of cooled boiled water a day and do baby massage 3 times a day. I did that and sure enough after 2 days the poo came, and lots of it lol My son could go 4-6 DAYS with nothing, and now I can tell the time by his Bowel movements lol. You are the mother and you know best, follow your instincts, they are usually right....."Mother Knows Best" xxxx
