checking the cervix does it hurt??? Added: 993 days ago. Added by: mandy89 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
ok im 35 weeks and tomarrow im getting my pelvic exam done to see if im dilated at all and im curious if he hurts cause when ive just had paps done and they have to put that thing in you to open you up to me that hurts and i cant sit still and i tence up real bad...and everyone ive asked either told me it hurts or they just say its really uncomfortable....but im really scared cause i think someone sticking there fingers wayyy up in there is going to hurt and i know this might sound bad but i bet some other women have tryed it too...but anyways i was checking on the internet to see if you could check yourself for any dilating and i tryed it but i made sure my hands were super clean cause im not trying to get an infection and im not sure but i might of felt it but it just didnt seem high enough but if that was it then i think i might be at least 1cm which would make me sooo happy cause i really want to be dilated....im ready for this baby to come out but im not good with people looking down or trying to stick there hand up there either lol...and im not even kiding about the hand....cause this girl that went to the same doc as me when she was pregnant i talked to her and she said when she was checking her...her cervix was a little higher up and she tryed to put her whole freakin hand up there...and she said she was real good with pain but this had her in tears...so that had me a little scared cause like i said i tryed it and i pushed and pushed my fingers up there and there was no end lol....so let me know what you all thought about getting checked and how did it feel?....thanks for reading hope to hear from you all soon :)

its more of an uncomfortable feeling. it doesn't NOT hurt but its not the worst thing to come, lol. its just a small amount of pain that is tolerable.

try not to be so tense during your exam or it may be more uncomfortable then it has to be. you will be fine and pretty soon you will get used to it.. just wait until your in the hospital it feels like there in there every minute.. scraping the memebranes now thats another story.. that hurts for a second but then its party on.. time to have that baby. i remember telling my doctor with my 1st " get her out" and i was like 39 weeks.. well he went in there to exam me and i felt this huge pinch and all the sudden it was over and he said " c ya tonight" well i didnt even get to leave the office when i mucus plug came out and contractions were starting on the way home.. i had her that night... its all good hun it will be fine.. relax and enjoy

Oh dont fret hon. Its not that bad really, just try and stay relaxed. It hurts more when you are in labor than anything because they "have" to examine you during a contraction. But just the regular exams arent that bad, at least in my opinon. They dont use a speculum, just the doctors fingers. I guess it really depends on how big their fingers are. lol Its overwith before you know it though.

I thought it felt similar to getting a pap smear

I was nervous when I first went in, but it really wasn't bad and it was over in less than 5 seconds. The only thing that I've heard is painful is membrane stripping...the actual checking doesn't hurt. Just relax and breathe and it'll all be fine. :)

In my experience it is uncomfortable the first few times. But once you get used to it it gets much easier to deal with. Depending on your doctor they make start checking you at every visit, in that case you will know what to expect and maybe make it easier.

It's def. extreamly uncomfortable lol I got super squeemish when I was getting checked and the doctor was like "It's nothing you havn't felt before, we all know that because your pregnant aren't you?" uggh. Anyways, yeah it doesn't hurt..it's just really really unplesent.

Umm yea, lil bit. Moreso than a pap smear or something similar. They will prop you up on an incline to make it easier. Being nervous and tense will make it hurt more. Just chill and breath through it. It tends to be quick. Consider it practice for the REAL pain lol :o)

getting checked really isnt that bad....of course, it isnt the greatest feeling in the world, but you cant expect to not feel anything....if you cant handle the pap, then you probably wont be able to handle getting checked...but my best advice would be to just try and relax...cuz tensing up makes it soooo much worse(i found out the hard way lol)...you will be fine!!! dont stress....its nothing like the pain you'll feel when your in labor lol. let me know how things go tomorrow(how dialated you are.)...congrats and good luck!!

I think it depends on who does it. I had a few nurses check me and I hurt I started to cry, but when my Dr or my Dr nurse checked me it didn't hurt just felt like a little pressure. I had to go into L&D once because I thought my water broke and they can't use any lub when they check for that I that hurt the worst.
