am i in preterm labor? Added: 988 days ago. Added by: cdn Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I am 31 wks and 3 days preg with twins. I have had no complications of preterm labor, but I have been getting a sharp pain in my back that goes to my fron under my ribs also down to my kidney area now. I went to the doc yesterday and all was well. What could it be?

Did your doctor happen to mention whether or not one of the babies was facing up? Usually when you have back pains like that, it's because the baby has its spine pressed up against your spine instead of it's belly to your spine. with two babies, there just may not be enough room at this point.

Thank everyone who has answered my questions they have all been halpful. I'm still not sure what the pain is. Its coming and going, but not so frequent now. And now my stomache is starting to feel really tight when it does start hurting. It hasn't been consistent so I'm just keeping an eye on it for now.

Hey there I have twins too! I remember having the pains that you are describing in my last month or so of pregnancy. I actually thought my kidneys were failing or something because the pain around them was pretty intense at times LOL. Yeah, not the case. Just the way the babies were positioned and how big they were. Mine were REALLY big for gestational age the whole pregnancy. Anywho, call your peri or OB and get a non-stress test done tomorrow. It's nothing to fool around with. Even the most uncomplicated of twin pregnancies can end very abruptly with pre-term labor. 31 weeks is waaay too early to have those babes, so if you needs some meds (totally normal) to keep them in, the doctor will set you up. It's not worth the risk of such an early delivery. Call, call, call. Demand that test tomorrow!

Doesnt sound like it hon. I had my daughter at 28wks and I had severe back pain and stomach pain too. Twins are usually early though so it could be. Id call my doc if it continues on and let them check you.

Did you have this pain when you were at the doc's yesterday? Did you ask them about it? If not, call your doctor. It's always better to be safe than sorry. And twins often do come early so it's not completely unheard of. And if it's nothing, then good, you go home knowing that you don't have to worry about that pain. But at least if there's any chance of them coming out early, you'll be with your doctor where you belong.

it could be where the babies are resting. sometimes gas can be really painful too. if the doctor isnt worried, i wouldnt stress over it. i never carried twins, but i would imagine that things are more intensified with two. the last few weeks with my daughter, i had back pain, kidney pain, pubic bone pain, and i ended up having to be induced. just keep an eye on things and communicate with your dr. and all should be fine. good luck and grats on the twins =)
