Okay.. This is hard for me to say because i am truly embarassed of the fact. I am now 1 day shy of 22 weeks pregnant and i cant completely cut my habit of smoking. It is something that i have struggled over this whole pregnancy and way before. I always said that if i ever got pregnant that it would be the easiest thing to do. But it has proven me otherwiwse. I would apprieciate the advice on how to stop ..and as much as i know there will be plenty of negative responses. Please understand that this is seriously hard for me to do and im asking for some type of help.

I smoked before having kids and quit as soon as I got pregnant with my first. As soon as I found out I was pregnant and did some research and looked at some pics of unborn baby's and the affect of smoking and it was disgusting. I quit cold turkey. My baby's health was so much more important then the urge to have a smoke. I think you owe it to your baby and yourself.

mummyyumyum - 986 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Smoking and its addicition is different things to different people. Some are addicted to the nicotein while others are addicted to the hand action and the habit of it. I know its not the same but it is a healthier option: you can get hold of an electronic smoke free cigarette. You inhale and exhale smoke just like you would from a real cigarette it apparantly even tastes the same! The initial outlay is not too bad I think its something like £35 GBP and that includes the cigarette itself and the cartridge and the cost of the refils is only the same price as a normal pack of 20 cigs and lasts for the same amount of time, you can even pick the flavour and stregth of the cartidges e.g. menthol & light. What this product is, is basically a cigarette with the flavour, nicotein but without all the nasty chemicals and tar and guess what its completely legal to smoke indoors and in public places too! Its worth giving a try and is a recommended way of giving up smoking and using as nicotien replacement. Just type in Smoke Free Cigarette into Google and you will find a few sites to choose from that offer this product. I hope it helps and good luck quitting xxx

Not great...but he is healthy and always has been. He gained the weight back quite quickly. I'm now pregnant again, and I quit smoking last monday cold turkey because my husband told me I had to. Well that lasted 5 days and then I started up again. Not as much as before, but still I am smoking. Sunflower seeds are helping me a bit (gives me something to do with my hands) but they hurt my tounge after a while too. The best thing to do is just relax and try. My dr told me that if smoking is the worst thing that I'm doing, that I shouldn't even worry about it, just try to cut back as much as I can. He also told me that if I can even smoke 1/2 a cigarrette instead of the whole thing, it would be better for the baby. And really 1/2 is all you need.

rosye13 - 986 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Don't be so embarrassed. Cigarettes are hard to quit. They say that they're more addictive than heroin. Anyway, I'm not sure if you're allowed to use any of the patches or anything while your pregnant. I used the patch to help me quit. In addition, I kept gum and candy on me all the time. I also made a list of all of the reasons I wanted to quit and kept it on me at all times to look over if I needed. There are also some quit smoking websites that are helpful. And the lung association website has chat rooms full of people who are quitting. It's really nice to talk to people who are going through what you are. In addition, there's a story about a man who died at 34 of lung cancer from cigarettes. His story really motivated both my husband and I. He had a son who I think was 2 or 3. I can't imagine not getting to see my baby grow up. And I almost felt after reading his story that I had to do it for him, that if anything good came out of his sad death it could be that I didn't go through what he did. Anyway, the website for that story is: http://whyquit.com/whyquit/BryanLeeCurtis.html I hope it helps.

jamiespaulding - 986 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I used the patch. Just the basic generic kind from Target. When I found out I was 7 weeks I checked with the doctor and asked if I could use it they said it was fine. I smoked for almost 11 years and by the 3rd day of wearing the patch I was done I didnt really even want to smoke. Dont get me wrong I still from time to time think of it but I know its best and like everyone else says take it day by day. Good luck to you and just let your motivation be that your baby will be so thankful for it. It may also be easy once you start feeling the baby move cause I swear at that point of pregnancy it felt so much more real cause I could notice a life inside me.

Shelley- - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I know exactly how u feel. I feel terrible but I still have 1 cigarette a day as when I found out I was pregnant I stopped completely but turned into a complete wreck & was so stressed out & my blood pressure went through the roof! I spoke to my doctor & she advised me that although 1 cigarette was still not great it was better than stressing myself & the baby out. If anyone does give negative comments then thats not helpful as u clearly want help with this, the only thing I can suggest is acupuncture as it worked for my Mum but don't know if it is okay to do whilst pregnant. Good luck!

nutnut - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) im in the same boat. with my first i stopped the day i found out simply bc i was too sick to smoke and the smell literally made me gag. i assumed it would be the same this time around and it hasnt. i have cut myself back from a pack a day to about 5 per day. im 6 weeks. this is what i have been doing, i keep busy all day long and do not take my ciggerettes with me when i leave the house. i will snack on something (like a string cheese or some crackers) when i feel the urge to smoke. its really hard and i understand what youre going through. the less i think about it the better off i am. throw out all the lighters or hide them, same with the ashtrays or at least keep them empty. seeing the butts makes me want them. dont smoke in the house if you can help it. i wish you luck. talk to your doctor about the patch. if im not completely off them by the time i go to my first appointment i will be doing the same. good luck!

tiffbethwood - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Your not alone Kim!!! I heard pregnant women can use the patch and also you may want to ask your doc about a low dose of wellbutrin. Best of luck.

mrsscorpio - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My friend got some type of ear piercing at the doctor that is supposed to suppress her desire to smoke.

tamm - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) maybe you could keep a piggy bank for your baby, and however much money you would normally spend on cigarettes, put it in the piggybank instead. you can open up a bank account for baby. imagine what you could do with that money. I found out very early on when i was pregnant, and quit cold turkey (once i finished the pack that I was halfway through). it helped that my husband quit with me, and also neither of us were heavy smokers. It also helped that smoking was banned pretty much everywhere; and we never used to smoke in the house, so then there's just the problem of the car being the favorite spot to smoke, so what helped was playing my favorite songs on my ipod on the way home instead. and lots of gum.

hannahe - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) if anyone gives you negative comments that is messed up! you are asking for help so you obviously know that it is not what you should be doing. ive never smoked so i dont know how to help but i wish you so much luck!

happyforest - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) try picking up a new habit or hobby to do everytime u want a cig. i know that smoking is a big part of ppl's lives, and u need something to replace the time and ritual of smoking after u eat, or whenever it is u usually do. i agree with the others, quit cold turkey. otherwise, every time u slip up and have 'just one' you have to quit all over again.

rachel86 - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I quit cold turkey also it was hard but the drs were telling me that placentas come out smelly and slimely and I kept thinking I dont want my baby living in that. You can do it!

RobinG - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I quit cold turkey ~ and didnt allow even one puff. If you allow even one puff you will not be able to stop. It is hard and yes I DO feel for you (((hugs))) Imagine that with every puff you take your baby is taking one too. I dont know if I could have been able to stop had I allowed a few drags here and there but as hard as it was I refused even one. Got rid of all packs and never bought a pack. If I needed a fix I ate gum or icecream. Hubby still smoked so I know how hard it is. You CAN do it ((hugs)) Just think of the baby and envision a cigerette in their mouth. I know that is harsh but it is what I did and it really helped :) When I drove I had a drink with me to keep my hands busy. Find something to occupy your hands, that was the hardest.

SazaUK(TTC2) - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've no idea how to help you but I want to say that I agree with m2b and take it day by day and think about the baby growing inside you before you have another. I understand that it is hard to quit smoking because I did too when I found out I was pregnant. Good luck

m2b - 987 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I too was a big smoker, but the day I found out that there is a baby growing inside of me I went into protection mode. And I quit! Yes I think about it ALL the time but I think about the health of my baby before what I want not need. have you tried to quit believe me take it day by day by day. And think about your son or daughter when you need it maybe that will help! good luck i am behind you! :)
