bottle to bf baby Added: 986 days ago. Added by: barunka05 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
My son is 6 months old and till now he was only bf. He eats solids already too. But my question is if anybody has any trick to teach him drink from a bottle. I will continue to bf but would like to give him ocasionnaly bottle with expressed milk if i need to leave him for longer time. The problem is that i tried but he won`t take any bottle. he is just playing with it but doesn`t drink from. I realize i should have started earlier but .. Any suggestions?

i agree with Robin best to have someone other then you try to get him to take it... his daddy got him to take it and then once he was used to it anyone was able to feed him the bottle

Best to have someone other hten you attempt when you arent around so he knows you are there. IT confuses himif you yourself are trying (()) Also make sure the nipple flow matches your breast flow as that will make him upset if it isnt the same. It rarely happens right at first so you just need to kepe trying and have your SO do it when you arent around or in same room.

Try just using a regular cup...not necessary to introduce a bottle at this point.

I am having the same problem. My LO is almost 5 months and I go back to work soon. He had previously taken bottles of breast milk on occasions when I left him with my mum but all of a sudden won't take a bottle. I'm starting to worry about going back to work. If you find anything that works please let me know. :)

I think the sippy cup is a good idea too, but if you are needing to leave him at a time when he would be going down for a nap or bedtime, then have someone else give him the bottle. Generally a breastfed baby will not take a bottle from mom cause you already have two built in bottles, and he prefers those over the one you are trying to give him. My friend had me give her daughter her first bottle, and she took it just fine from there...

I'm in the same boat, and I agree. Skip the bottles and try a sippy cup. My 6 month old sort of mouthes the spout but hasn't figured out yet about sucking on it. The key may be getting the kind that doesn't have one of those anti-leak valves in the spout so that even if he just tips it, a little bit will come out. Just like learning to manipulate baby cereal, they'll catch on if we keep it up.

At 6 months I skipped the bottle and taught my son to use the sippy cup instead.
