Hi ladies,my dd will be 5 months old on the 19th and she drank 4/12 oz 7-8 tmes a day, bout a week ago she started eating 5oz,but only 4 maximum 5 times a day, mostly 4 though,so i added the oz amount up and its only 20-25 oz,mostly she doesnt drink all of the 5 oz,sometimes only 3 and half oz.Her 2 bottom teeth are glassy(busy breaking thru) and she is very fussy, poops more(2-3x a day and its a mustard colour and is much more smelly, she is congested and has a little cough. Is she drinking less coz she is teething or is she sick? She has crhonic post natal drip.Im worried coz her weight gain has slowed down and she has to go for her last shots wednesday, dont wanna take her when she is sick. Please help.Thanx

I hate it that people assume that every baby should be on the same sched as theirs. My dd is 5 months today & she eats 6oz bottles about 5 times a day & she eats at night! So YOUR babies sched should be what works for you & your baby! Now on to your question... (LoL) I would call doctor today & tell them whats going on & then just see what they say to be safe :)

Blondie, she is no longer eating 7-8 times a day,she is taking 5 oz maybe less 4-5 times a day.I didnt force her into anything,i made more formula and i just wasted the extra,so i guess she wasnt into drinking more milk, nothing i can do bout that, believe me i tried everything. She is eating but only at night(cereal or porridge) and then she sleeps for 10 hours straight before she she dirnks again. She doesnt wanna eat alot of solids, she just doesnt take it only at night.I realy dont mind that she doesnt eat more solids though,no real rush is there.Btw i phoned the sisters station and i explained the symptoms to them and mentioned her teeth are busy cutting thru and the sister said they dont give shots when the teeth are busy cutting thru with the symptoms i explained, she said that their little bodies are already fighting those stuff, they dont wanna give them more stuff to fight which i totaly agree with. She isnt on a sippy cup yet.Luckily the guidelines on the tin of formula is only a guideline, not what they are suppose to eat.Thanx ladies;-)

O and yes, consult with the doc before the shots. However, those are probably just teething symptoms.

It is common for a baby to cut back in formula a bit because they are eating solids. Is she eating solids? My girls drink about 25oz of formula per day, but they also eat 6 tablespoons of cereal (3 tbs with breakfast and 3 tbs with dinner), 1/2 Stage 2 fruit, 1/2 Stage 2 veggie, various Gerber Puffs and various table foods. Therefore I'm not too concerned that they went from 30-32oz of formula to 25oz. However, my girls always finish the bottles- but they are not allowed to eat every 2-3 hours and they are not allowed to eat in the middle of the night. If she's eating 7-8 times per day then you must be feeding her very frequently. Mine only eat every 4 1/2 hours (except for between their dinner and bedtime snack, those feedings are closer) and 4 feedings per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, bedtime snack). Here's the problem with feeding little amounts (4-5oz) very frequently- it makes the metabolism RACE, and therefore they burn the calories very quickly and the baby is thus hungry for more very soon. Doing this can hinder weight gain or even lead to weight loss. Think about it...when we diet as adults, we are told to eat several small meals per day for metabolism reasons. You are doing the same to her. No doubt feedings get harder when teething kicks in, I'm in the same boat! Is she on a sippy cup yet? Mine are and the nipple on that is much smaller and harder than the bottle nipple, it feels good on their gums. My girls only take juice and water from their sippy cups, but perhaps Andriette would start taking her milk from there. Or try putting a local numbing medication (Oragel) on her gums before feedings to take the edge off. Try these things, but you also have to change up how and when you feed her. She's eating like a newborn! She should be taking 7-8oz feedings at this point and MUCH less often. Teething is rough, but it's no excuse to stop eating altogether. You have to make her get those nutrients. Best of luck :o)

Call the doc before you take her for her shots they usually dont give shots if they have any other symptoms.. I am wierd about those shots anyways.. I get them in seperate visits and I never take the baby if she is just not herself... I would call the doc 1st hun... Jen
