Paying the Babysitter

I have a babysitter for my 9.5 month old daughter. I`m a teacher so I have certain weeks off that I stay with the baby and don`t have to pay this sitter. Now, I`m going to have the summer off and don`t want to drop her off if I don`t need to. I`ll probably drop her off two days since, on those days, I have class. So, that cuts the babysitter`s pay by three days ($25/day). Is there a different procedure for cutting back hours on a sitter? She takes care of three other kids, too. Should I still be paying her for a full week or something? I want to be fair, but I also don`t want to pay if she`s not actually caring for her.



femi - 979 days ago my babysitter isn't licensed, she's basically an unofficialy babysitter that provides care in her home. so i was unsure whether she follows what other sitters do, but thanks for these comments, because i may very well pay her the entire week since this recession has hurt enough people .....

Typically, if you want to take her to watch your daughter anytime during the week, you pay for the entire week regardless if shes there one day, three days, or the entire week. I would talk to your baby sitter about it. She may not do it and would rather have an opening so she can get a new full-time client.

jaydsmom - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) In my experience you have to pay whether the child is there or not. It guarantees your child's spot when you need the sitter full time. Otherwise, she could give you spot to someone who is full time. You sitter may have their own policy, but this one is pretty standard because sitters need to guarantee their income too.

RobinG - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You will need to check the agreement with the sitter. I am a daycare provider and my contract is much the same as everyone else nearby. The provider is only allowed 2 children under the age of two at one time. If you take up a part time slot then she cant have 2 full timers and PT slots are hard to fill so she may require you pay for the full time or find another sitter who offers only PT. I also have a 2 week notice clause. You must pay for childcare that was schedule within the two weeks even if your child suddenly doesnt come for illness or your spontanious day off. If you cant bring her you still owe but if you give two weeks notice on a day you will not be bring her then you dont owe but some arent like that, you pay either way since they have a budget too and need notice to a loss of income. Every sitter has a different policy so only your sitter can tell you what you can do or not do. Pt care is much harder to find for children under 2 because of the number limitations.
