so i would like to try to have my baby all natural, Im just afraid of tearing, My step sister told me about the prudential block that its just a shot they give you before the birth of the baby so it numbs it but you still fell contractions. She also said that they gave hers to her to late and the the numbing stuff didnt kick in until after the baby.. I really dont want an epidural but if the pain of the contractions are to crazy i cant handle them, i would get it.. I guess what my question is, is to the mothers that have had a natural and than tried a block.. what was the difference and was it better than natural? I just pretty much want to know everything haha... thanks

klo0426 - 979 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Well for me, I was induced and by the time I got to 4cm I thought I was dying, seriously I would not wish that pain onto anyone. I ended up having am emergency c-section, by the time they got me to the OR I thought I was going to pass out from the contractions coming so quickly, they were every min 1/2. But once I got the epidural I was ALL GOOD...thank god.lol My sister has 4 girls and had the first delivery natural and the rest she had epidurals. She said she would never put herself thru that again. One thing you have to keep in mind, everyones pain threshold is different, some of us are babies when it comes to pain and others can handle pain. Another thing to keep in mind everyone I know that has had the epidural, including myself. You may end up with back pains. Here I am 8 weeks later and my body is back to normal, but my back kills me sometimes and its in the spot where they put it. But if I had to do it all over again I'd still get it.

My son's heartbeat went down to 40 whe I was 10cm and the doctor had to yank him out with forcepts and I had to have an epesiotomy (sorry I can't spell that). They topped off my epidural before and after all of this happened so I wouldn't have to feel a thing. So in my mind getting the epidural is a great thing because nobody knows what is going to happen. My sons birth was going normally up until 10cm and then it was just an all of a sudden we have to get him out situation. At that point the Dr doesn't care too much about how the mother is feeling, it's all about getting the baby OUT! So I have a lot of respect for people who do it naturally, but that will never be me.

everythingX2 - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had twins 8 weeks early. they were only 3lb 10oz and 3lb 12oz. becasue they were early and my little girl was coming double breach they suggested the epi - i aggreed. before i had this i was given steriod shots for their lungs and then some morphine (3 shots) not a lot of morphine just a little to take the edge off it. then i had gas and air also. when i was about 8-9 cm they gave me an epi. for my little boy i could still feel contractions but not as sore and also could move my legs (i didnt stand up though so not sure if id have fallen) it was a half epi if that makes sense.... anyway harry came naturally and i could feel it and was still kinda sore but not as sore as i was without the epi. then came isla - she was double breach i was wheeled into theatre incase they had to section me and was then given a full epi where i felt nothing. i had a midwife on one side hands on my tummy telling me to push as she could feel the contractions but i couldnt. i needed 2 stitches after and again felt nothing coz of the full epi. if your going to tear then you will. i had small baies and i still needed 2 - maybe this was due to isla being double breach..... i felt ok afterwards just really tired. i was able to rest though as my baby wasnt with me as they were taken to special baby unit. id defo leave enough time for you to have an epi incase you want it. it can take upto about an hr sometimes for it to fully work......

nevertooyoung19 - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) oh and btw i did not tear. well i did but it didnt need any stitches so they called it as no tearing. my son was 6lb 14oz

nevertooyoung19 - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i wanted the epidural SOOOO bad bythe end of my labor. i had originally wanted to go without but figured if i NEEDED it it would be there. well i got to the hospital at 4-5 cms and dellivered an hour later.. i was so pissed when she said it was time becaus ei knew then i would feel EVERYTHING. and i already felt like i was DYING. so anyway while baby was crowning (before the most painfull part of delivery) in between contractions, the doctor gave me a shot in my vagina. now i dont know if this is what you are talking about, but if it is, i did not feel the shot at all. i geuss i was in too much pain everywhere else. and also it was supposed to numb my vagina but.. ha ha that is a joke there was no difference. so anyway i dont know what it was called but if it is what you are talking about then i have to say it does NOTHING. Also another thing that did nothing was breathing techniques they teach you in childbirth classes. i couldnt breath for the life of me. ha h the nurses kept getting mad at me and aying "BREATH CORRIN" but i just wanted to tell them to breath. so anyway if you can get the epidural, you will want to trust me. i had wished i could have got mine but baby came before the epidural guy did, so i went natural. wow crazy. good luck and i hope all goes well for you. some say labor isnt that bad and others say it is HORRENDOUS so if you can handle it then do, because i know the epidural comes with some risks, so if you dont HAVE to have it then WOO HOO.

kristalsfirst - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i had epi but they wore it off and all the pushing was natural. Honestly contractions were a BItch ! and i had a 9lb baby natural and i felt eveyrthing and it hurt so much that i didnt even feel the tearing. Please leave room for drugs if u need them its better to be able to remember ur name from no pain then be so messed with all ur pain that u forget everything but how much it hurt.

jennymomof3 - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I've had both all natural. My son was 8lbs 3oz and I ripped and my daughter was 6lbs 15oz and I did not tear. I plan on a nutural birth with this one too!

mariettap - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had an epi the first time and then all natural/unmedicated the 2nd time. I think what makes it a good or bad experience, really, is not whether or not you used medication but how kindly you were treated by your birth attendants. If they treat you with compassion, offer suggestions to cope, and show your partner how to help you, you can get through anything. I say it's about getting a good match of provider and hospital/location. My 2 birth stories describe the differences. Come see on my page (click the pink baby feet).

nicnmicsmom - 980 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My first child came too fast for them to give me any anesthetic. With my second child, I had an epidural. I am SO glad I did. The entire experience was so much worse when I didn't have anything. If I were you, I'd leave plenty of room to change your mind about having a child naturally. It really is horrible. Secondly...I'd make sure they didn't cut you. I had them massage the area and use hot compresses while I was in labor and I barely had a scratch. Healed perfectly. Episiotomies are kind of old school

kristina89 - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my doctor gave me a shot without me even knowing and then he cut me because he said I was going to tear so I was numb for the cutting but I fealt every contraction but i went all natural as far as I know I went through a whole day of contractions and showed up at the hospital and I was 8 cent. Dialated .... So I couldn't get anything to help with pain but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was

happyforest - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i didnt want the epi either, but after being induced i quickly changed my mind!! and just in case this might make you feel better, i had a 9.5 lb baby and didnt tear!!

4thonitsway - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my first I had only drugs in IV, 2nd was same way different drug, 3rd I had an epidural, my first was a great labor(stadol was drug) I slept thru practically the whole thing, 2nd was horrible(demerol was drug) that drug have basically no effect on me so it was awful. 3rd got the epidural(also my longest labor) and it took away the pain but I was unable to move my legs, which makes me clausterphobic. I freaked and made them turn it down and was able to feel the pain again. this time Im going to try and get a repeat of my first and nothing more than stadol(if needed) btw I have horrible pain tolerance

daydays mom - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i wanted to go natural but wasnt able to cause i was induced and that pit drip was horrible...i got the epi but it didnt work very long. your purdy much going to tear if your going to. because i didnt think i was...but girl my lil lady tore me so bad it took the doctor 40 minutes to stitch my back up, she was talking bout taking me to the ER to get more light to be able to stitch me up but she got it done.

katiebickell - 981 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i went natural and didnt even feel the tearing (only tore a little bit though). to me the pushing and crowning felt good (well better anyway, lol), like a relief with every push - its the contractions that hurt me.
