Spitting up?????? Added: 979 days ago. Added by: klo0426 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Ok ladies not to sound like a complete idiot but, Evan has always spit up after eating. But now he`s spitting up basically everything he`s putting down. Don`t get me wrong he`s definately growing there`s no question about that at all. But seriously he`ll take a 6oz bottle and I`ll have 2 or 3 burp cloths with me...sometimes it`s one of his blankets and by that I mean the entire blanket. So my question is.....Is this normal? And should I be worried because he is growing?

My girls used to spit up after feeding and I think I fed them too much. When ever they were upset I used to breastfeed them and they used to throw up. But now I have a baby boy and he knows when he has had enough. He wont take anymore if he is full, unlike my girls and he doesnt throw up at all. Not sure if that helps but thought I would pass on my experience

Def sounds like reflux to me. I don't know why people always assume that if a child has reflux they have to be medicated. That is not true. Both of my twin boys have reflux. One is a little more severe than the other but both due just fine on Enfamil AR. I wouldn't just allow it to continue because your child could throw up while sleeping and potienally choke.

If your son is continuing to grow and gaining weight - then he can't be bringing up an entire feed. Spit-up generally looks alot more than what is actually there. I'd be reluctant to say 'reflux' - I just don't believe the amount of babies that 'appear' to suffer from this - it seems rather high. I just took the spit up as par for the course of having a baby, babies DO spit up. My little one (9 weeks old) brings up some milk after each feed.. he's breast fed. Sometimes it can be our own fault for being a little lax on the old burping routine, maybe I should perservere a little more on certain ocassions. Anyhoo - for all that he spits, amount wise and frequency, my LO is not phased by it at all. I suffer from reflux and so does my dad and it's painful.. Still definitely talk to your baby doctor though.. :]

Is it just a little spit up or his whole meal? I had similar problems with my 2nd daughter. She could not tolerate breast milk (too thin) so began formula but had same problem. Took her to Dr who suggested putting small amount of cereal in her bottle at each feeding. I did so and problem solved. I probably wouldn't be too worried since he seems otherwise healthy and continues to grow. Wouldn't hurt to check with pediatrician though. Good Luck!

The full-bellyful of milk? Yes, DD had that due to reflux. Forget burp cloths, I kept cloth diapers around, and she'd soak them each time. It sounds like it is happening quite often for you son. I was willing to handle the inconvenience and just do a lot of wiping up. We got pretty good at racing toward the sink so the sink could catch most of it, too. But at 2 mos we made a change. It happened to her in her crib and she couldn't breathe b/c her airway was filled w/ milk. We went with medication, just until she grew out of it (5 1/2 mos in our case). It also made her feedings go more smoothly, way less fussiness during and after feedings, and I stopped being afraid to go to sleep and take my eyes off her, as well. So, no, it's not normal, and I agree, don't medicate if you don't need to, but it's worth a discussion w/ the pediatrician to weigh the options.

I had the same problem with my son. The best advise I can give is burp your baby every 30 mls of bottle. It seems rediculous but air gets stuck under the milk and at the end of a bottle or even half way through it comes back up pushing the milk up with it, if you burp every 30mls theres not enough milk ontop of the air to bring up. I did this with my son and within 2 days he was keeping it down and sleeping perfectly. As he got older I just increase the mls between burping by 10mls at a time. Hope it helps.

My son was diagnosed with pyloric stenois whe he was about a minth old he would projectile vomit practically all his bottle. I dont know if your son is doing that but if he is you should go to the dr. I wish you all the best.
