ive been reading into the baby whisperer as a first time mom im really hoping to get a good routine and a baby that sleeps through the night asap :) has anyone used her techniques, and what have you gotten out of it? also i just read that she leaves wet diapers and only changes poopy ones at night, is this really ok to do?

I am not familiar with her book because I did cry it out (it was just more practical for us), and my babies slept through the night at 7 weeks of age (8pm-8am). On the question of the diapers though...yes definitely leave them! I NEVER changed a diaper in the middle of the night unless it was a poop. No need getting them all good and stimulated. For the short time that I did have to do nighttime feeds they were always done in their room (I have twins), in the pitch black, with no eye contact and no talking. It was strictly business- in and out. This helped them not confuse day with night and fun with rest time. Definitely sleep the baby it his/her own room in their own crib from day one! It makes life sooo much easier down the line! And CONSISTENCY, CONSISTENCY, CONSISTENCY! Make a schedule and NEVER deviate early on. I do not read my babies, but I do keep log of everything they do. I decided upon the schedule and they were trained to follow it, and it worked like a charm that way. I strongly suggest the bath, bottle bed routine. A bath every night knocks them right out! O, and as another woman mentioned about the cereal, mine had it in their bottles at 3 weeks old and were taking it by spoon at 6 weeks. It fills them right up! Great techique! Good luck :o)

Our first was an Angel baby, so we had it easy, but our second is a Spirited baby, and I am sooo glad I have that book! He is 3 months, sleeps through the night, and is into a good routine. When we go out, there's no guesswork for the sitter, because he's into such a routine. BabyWhisperer is my Baby Bible ;-)

riknlee - 977 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My advice is get to know your baby. Learn what he/she is communicating. I kept a log of everything my baby did involving cries, sleeps, nappy changes, feeds when he was little and observed tired signs. Not all babies fit to a certain mould, it is best in my opinion to follow your baby. My baby is 9 months old and he shows me with his eye rubbing or yawning or grizzliness that he is tired and I put him down to sleep. he usually goes right to sleep. He has a little certain wimper if he wants something to eat. Learn your baby's signs and work with that. Then you know your baby best

newyearsbb - 978 days ago thank you guys for the comments already a big help! cereal in the bottle smart, didnt know you could do that either ill hopefully be breastfeeding but maybe ill pump for that before bed feeding just so i can do that !

LizetteCheree - 978 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) The best book ever.tracy hogg realy knows how to do things w/out little one crying their hearts out, believe me the cry it out method is heart breaking and my lo vomited and alsmost choked on it,no fun.It will be much better to follow her guidelines from the start then bebe can get used to the routine and to her cot and own room. Its defo ok to leave wet diapers(the diapers i got are spesificaly for sleeping and playing, its called pampers sleep and play but dont think its avaiable in the us) but poopy diapers needs to be changed a.s.a.p.When your lo wees at night and u change their diaper they get stimulated and wake up fully so it can be rather difficult to get them back to sleep and it interupts their sleeping pattern.I just slap on alot of good bum cream(i use bennets baby bum creme) and my dd has never had rash.:-)

mamalvs4 - 978 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i havent heard much about the baby whisperer, but my son was on an awesome schedule and was a great sleeper. i think a lot of it was sticking to a routine and getting him used to it, i could almost time the times when my son would wake up, eat, poop etc etc. it was great because i went back to work after 5 weeks.. i started giving my son cereal in his bottle at night at like 6 weeks, i made it very thin just enought to give him that little something extra to stick to his ribs and keep him fuller longer. he started sleeping thorough the night almost right away
