I am thinking of weaning my LO off his paci in a couple of months or so. He has started to be more dependent on it and cries for it even when he is not tired. Do any of you have any tips on weaning him off it?

All I know is that you are supposed to (for an easy transition) replace it with another form of comfort. I weaned my twins much younger than your LO (8 weeks), so as a replacement they were becoming unswaddled and had their hands. To ammompany this, I also gave them 12 inch, soft square blankies to cuddle up to and suckle on. They were still so young and ignorant that the habit broke in like 2 days. I saw a small addiction starting so I nipped it in the bud. I would try replacing it with something, anything. A stuffed animal, blankie...

Its only a concern past 18 months ~ some rid of it much sooner but those that attempted around 1-1.5 did just fine. I would def hold off ~ he needs it now and it is def not a concern for him to have it now (())

Thanks :-) He is nearly 5 months old. I was a bit concerned that it would be harder to get rid of it later on if he seems addicted to it now.

Around 6 months my daughter was like that. She wanted to have it constantly, but then around eight months she gave it up on her own. Even though he seems addicted now doesn't nessasarily mean he will want it forever. Sorry I don't have any advice though. Just wanted to be encouraging :)

How old is he? If he is younger then a year I would wait there is no reason to take it away before then ~ I think 1-1.5 is the best time. Bye bye paci parties are the best ever!! Buy hellium balloons tie ALL (dont leave any hidden) to the balloons and let them float away. Have a cake to celebrate and a gift with a new comfort toy inside. He then can visualize that it is really gone and not just lost in the house and you can remind him of it when he asks for it. Make it a big deal to the next step of growing up ~
