My son who his 4.5 months old, can now roll onto his tummy-he`s done it a few times in his crib. I am now worried because he has a hard time rolling from his tummy to his back. he turns his head from side to side fine, and can raise his head, but I am afraid of the risk of SIDS. I use a video mon itor, his bedroom is right behind mine. Can anyone offer any advice/reassurance/tips?? Please & Thanks in advance!!!

he should be fine. Basically the reason they worry about sides in babies is A) they're bedding is so soft they sink in a bit and can't turn their heads when they are on their belly. B) they aren't strong enough to turn their head well, and C) there are too many pillow's/blankets/etc and can suffocate baby.

If he can turn his head, he'll be fine. As long as there's no blankets, stuffies or bumpers in the crib, don't stress. My LO likes to be swaddled, but lately he's been wiggling out of it and waking up on his side with the blanket completely wrapped around his head! Freaks us right out, but he fusses so we know when it happens. My point is, kids spend their whole lives finding ways to freak you out (wait until he thinks it's funny to hide on you- talk about a heart attack!) If you really can't relax about it, do what pooka said. Good luck!

My son was exactly the same age when he did it too. I got the angel care monitor. I also used the video monitor. I just felt better that I would know if he stopped breathing.

i agree with the other girls. if he can lift his head then he should be fine, if he wants to be rolled over again on his back but cant manage it he'll cry and let ya know, i think my boy is gonna be a side sleeper cos numerous times i have found him asleep on his side....if he cant lift his ehad then do what pooka said.

My LO is rolling onto his tummy in his cot as well and has just turned 5 months old. I know it is hard not to worry about it but if he can lift his head I don't think you having anything to worry about.

If your baby can roll and left his head up and side to side I am sure he will be fine. ALthough my son is 7 months old he was a late learner but when he did I would often find him on his tummy looking at me smiling away. I would just advise to not have lots of loose blankets or big teddys, anything he could get to that could possible cause harm. I am sure he will be perfectly fine.

if your that concerned use rolled towels held with elastics or a foam wedge to keep him from rolling over
