27 weeks pregnant, but back to 3-5 a day, but cant quit. Doctor says im doing well (heavy smoker before 1 pack to 1 &1/2 packs a day), but im still worried. The guilt is horrible, but the addiction is too. HELP

Jenn15 - 964 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I hear ya Julie. I am 28 weeks and am still smoking 3-5 a day as well. I know how hard it is to quit. Just keep hanging in there!

jaydsmom - 966 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had a friend who tried the hypnosis (just like blondie's MIL). She has not smoked since. That was 5 years ago!

nicnmicsmom - 966 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I feel for you. I've never been a smoker but I've been around many friends and relatives that have tried to quit over and over. It seems like you're doing VERY well..going from over a pack a day to just 3-5. So don't beat yourself up. Listen to what your doctor says. Can you try the patch? Is that any better for the baby????Also, if anyone else around you smokes, I'd ask them to quit or cut back too...Good luck.

nutnut - 966 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i quit yesterday im 8 weeks. i tried the cutting back method but was getting back up over the 5 per day i was alotted. i smoked 1-2 packs a day. all you can do is take one day at a time. i feel alot better and its not even been two full days. the hardest time of the day for me is mid morning early afternoon bc that is typically when i smoke the brunt of my 1-2pack a day habbit. its especially hard to sit at the computer bc i would smoke and chat or what have you. i had to get rid of all the ashtrays. seeing the ashtray made me want one. 3-5 a day is very good you just keep up the good work. maybe next week you can get yourself to have only 3. once you can get under the 3 per day, its like you wont even need it anymore. good luck. dont feel guilty youre doing the best you can! like i said i just quit yesterday, so if you decide to quit completly right now, we can be partners i can give you my aim and when you want one just im me and i can help talk you out of it =P. this one post i saw, said the placenta gets black and slimy and stinky and falls apart when you smoke. i keep thinking about that, and its what made me decide to try to stop all together. i know its a terrible thing to post but its what i think about. you keep up the good work. eventually youll get smoke free =)

xolblondieox - 966 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I know this sounds ridiculous, but this is how my MIL quit. Her and her SIL were like 1-2 pack a day smokers. They heard about this hypnotizing treatment that was only available in canada at the time (like 15 years ago). They thought they'd give it a try. These people claimed that in one $50 session they guarantee that you'll never smoke again. Well my MIL was totally not buying it. She smoked a whole pack on the car ride up there! Much to her surprise, in a 30 minute time period, she completely kicked the habit! She'd been smoking for 30 years! She said that when she left she tried lighting up and wanted to puke. To this day (again, 15 years later), she is totally disgusted by even the smell of a cigarette. She will NEVER have another! She swears by this stuff. Her SIL that went with her has been clean for 15 years as well, so it worked for her too. I know not everyone is able to be hypnotized (mentally), but it's worth a shot. I'd really look into it if I were you! Because then you could not only quit while you're pregnant, but for the rest of your life too! You can quit at 80 and your lungs will still start to repair themselves...amazing! Best of luck to you!

bbcd09 - 967 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Cutting back is alot better than still smoking a pack a day. You are doing great! Try not keeping them anywhere in the house, tossing out ashtrays, lighters, matches, etc. Anything to keep your mind from it will help. If you smoke in the house make yourself go outside for your cigarettes, it may help you lose the desire especially in hot or cold weather. Make rules for yourself and stick to them such as no smoking in the car or not having a cigarette before or after a certain time in the day. I know its hard but you are doing very good! Dont be disappointed in the progress you've made, its excellent progress nonetheless. If you need anymore pointers or someone to talk to, Im here! I know smoking is very hard to quit, It was one of the hardest things I have ever done but have confidence that you too will beat the addiction =)

JordanAndKarasMummy - 967 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) congrats on cutting back, i smoked heavily before my pregnancy and also cut back to 4 a day, my doctor/midwife highly praised me for doing so and said not to feel guilty as those 4 were alot better than smoking 30 a day, well done you!!!

Shannon82 - 967 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I know it's so hard!! I quit 10 days ago and was doing so well but today has been horrible..I was craving all day but was able to work through it. 3-5 a day is a major cut back so congrats to you for that!! My husband smoked too but quit 2 days ago. That has helped because I know if I wanted just 1 I couldn't even get it. Maybe if you don't buy anymore and there's none around the house you could work better through the cravings. I hope I helped a little bit!!!
