Hi everyone!! While I still have 6 months to go before baby gets here. I was wondering if anyone knows of an easy way to get dogs ready for the transition of the baby coming home? I have two absolutely spoiled rotten Jack Russell Terriers that are my baby girls. They both sleep in the bed with my hubby and I. Damand our attention just about 24/7. They really havent been around little children and the few times they have, they have barked their heads off and even tried to snap at a couple of them. They do not like other dogs and can be a bit aggressive towards other dogs. And my thought is if they act like that to other dogs, how in the world are they going to react to the baby?? Getting rid of them is definitely not an option but neither is one of them biting the baby!! Do you guys know of any easy ways to help with this situation? Do you think getting a baby doll that cries and makes noise that I could pretend is the baby would help? To get them use to the baby? Thanks...

jaydsmom - 966 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If finding them a home is not an option, what about getting someone to come in to train them (dog whisperer type of person). I had a bad incident with our baby - a german shepherd. She got terribly jealous and bit our baby. We have a 7 year old and she was used to kids, but she hated the baby. Unfortunately we had to find her a new home after the bite, and I wish we could have found someone to train her in our house. It would have save a lot of heartbreak.

nutnut - 966 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) slowly introduce them. keep them in a seperate room with a baby gate, so they can get used to hearing and seeing the baby. i let them sniff her toes with my hand close by. i never let them on the ground with her bc i trust no animal. one dog i had was protective of my daughter and didnt like the other animals near her. that was probably the main issue. she would growl at the other animals and chase them away from the baby's room. she slept right at the baby gate when my daughter was in her crib. a few times she got under the crib and wouldnt come out, so i had to put the gate up. it was like i broke her heart too. i dont know about jack russles they are hyper dogs LOL i had bigger dogs so we mostly worried about them jumping on her and knocking her over or stepping on her. we just kept my daughter off the foor. and made sure to pay attention to the dogs. the cat was worse bc he would try to get in her basinette. so i had to put the insect screen over her basinet and he wouldnt go near that. this time around i have only one small dog. he is hyper, im not sure how to deal with him. i guess i will do the same thing i did the first time with the baby gate. this dog is used to kids, he is happiest when they are pulling his ears and laying on him. i think he will be fine. just hes a jumper and so hyper. the baby gate worked really good it gave more control over the situation. i let the dogs approach me and a the baby i didnt push the baby at them. they were all just fine. good luck!
