Does MIrena give you migraines? Added: 965 days ago. Added by: luvmyboy Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I went to my OB yesterday and talked to her about BC options. She is really pushing Mirena. However I am prone to horrible hormone migraines such as around my period and postpartum. I am concerned that since Mirena contains hormones I might get bad migraines from it. I got horrible migraines from the minni pill (progesterone only pill) Has anyone had Mirena placed that has a history of hormone migraines? How did it work out for you? Any replies would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

I would not get this I have horrible reactions to BC this is why I am preg. with #5 hehe! But the thing is not 100% and it is inserted you have to have it removed here where I live it is hard to get in to have it taken out if your having problems. My cousin has bleed erratically for over 5 months now and suffers nausea, headaches, and cramping her new symptom is cyst. I am not for it for many other reasons but that is personal beliefs.

I dont have the merina but I do suffer from migrains...after having my daughter I did consider having the merina put in as use for BC. What I was told by the doctor was that the hormones from the merina coil dont move outside the uterus/womb so the hormones from the coil never travel around your sytem like it does with the pill. I never had the merina put in because I heard lots of conflicting information about it. In the end I asked my doctor for the lowest hormone dose pill and she told me about one called Cerazette and that worked fine for me, I still did get migraine but I dont think it was caused or made worse by taking that particular pill.
