I think my baby is behind! Added: 964 days ago. Added by: aidensmommy1 Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Ok my son just turned 10 months old and he is still not crawling! He will go backwards but not forward. He will stand along furniture but is no where near walking. I feel like he is really behind and I talked to my doctor and he just keeps saying he will crawl when hes ready. He also didnt sit until he was almost 8 months. He seems like he is always behind in everything. Should I be getting worried? Because I am! Is there anything I can do to make him crawl or walk? Its just frustrating because I know a lot of people with kids his age and they have been crawling for a long time and they always say to me that I need to get my son help because he is way behind! I don`t know what to do!

I'm so glad you asked this question! My son is 9 months old and has no interest in crawling, or walking for that matter. I worry because I work with children with developmental disabilities so I feel hypersensitive to everything.. I'm always concerned that he is not meeting his milestones on time. He is very laid back and he is content just to sit and play with things. I guess we just need to chill out and enjoy our babies!!

I wouldn't worry. Crawling is not actually a milestone, some kids never crawl. My daughter started crawling (army style) at 9 months. She has no interest in standing holding onto things or walking and she's 9.5 months. I would say he's right on track. And as for walking they say btwn the ages of 11-16 months is the norm, so you've still got plenty of time!

Thanks everyone you make me feel better! My doc was not worried that he didnt sit until 8 months he just kept saying he has the strength but not the will..he says the same thing about him crawling. He does all these exercises with him and he told me that he has very strong muscles he just chooses not to crawl. In the last couple days he has now been interested in trying to walk along furniture so yes maybe he will just skip crawling and go straight to walking!

what did the doctor say about his sitting at 8 months? if you trust your doctor and he/she doesn't seem worried, then don't worry about it and just make sure you jot down information on other progress and milestones. once you notice a pattern with late development of milestones, then bring up the topic again with your doctor.

from what i've heard, some babies skip crawling and go straight to walking...so maybe he will walk soon...and skip crawling....dont worry about how old he is and what he's doing...alot of the things that they say babies "should" be doing at "this" age isnt even set in stone...your baby is fine and you shouldnt let anyone tell you otherwise.

Hes not behind at all ~ he is right where he should be :) I notice many here have kids who are a bit early on things so it tends to make us think ours are behind when in fact they arent.

you do NOT need to get your kid help for gods sake! people shouldn't judge your son. every kid is different. no kindergardener crawls to school! eventually he will perform when he is ready. parents are way too quick to give their children deadlines for meeting new tasks and when they dont they think they have a problem. its crazy

my son crawled backwards for the first month, i wouldn't worry too much he might surprise you and go right to walking very quickly.

boys do take longer to devolpe, he could just not be ready yet. if your doc has checked him out and there is no physhical problem with him, and he doesnt seem slow. (like makin eye contact, smilin at you, laughin?, pickin up toys an lookin at em) then more then likely nothin is wrong with him. he just wants to tak his time, an you cant really push him to do some thing hes not ready to do. so good luck with your little one

I've known a few people that there babys didn't crawl itll amost a year, some didnt at all, instead they just up and walked one day. He really isn't behind, your doc would tell you if he was behind. I know it's hard and so many people do it, but try not to compare him to other babys! Keep the doctor updated, they will tell you if they are actually getting behind. It' sounds like he's well on his way to both crawling and walking

Your son is okay!! He can stand so you know his legs work right! He just doesn't want to crawl or walk yet. Consider yourself lucky! It is so much easier to keep up with him. My 2nd child sat right where I put her until 10 months - she was not even standing at 10 months. And she is FINE! I firmly believe the age they start crawling and walking is largely based on the temperament/personality of the child ~ I'll bet your little one is content and laid back right? BTW going backward is a precursor to crawling forward for many children...he will be off to the races before you know it!

My lil man didnt start crawling until 10.5 months and it still was not a crawl. Matter of fact, he didn't roll over until he started crawling!! Then he was running by 12.5 months. Some babies are really just lazier than others. But I wouldn't be too concerned yet :)
