My LO had a temp of 99.8. I gave him a bath and it dropped to 99.6. Do I need to be concerned? The doc said before not to give tylenol because it could mask anything that may be going on.but he obviously isn`t feeling well and I hate just letting him suffer. What should I do? Do I need to be concerned? He was a preemie so I`m certain he`s not teething yet.

RobinG - 962 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If this was a rectal temp it isnt a fever. Infants dont have a fever rectally til it is 100.5. If it was not rectal then yes it is one. Considering he was a preemie I dont know if this changes things because that temp isnt usually normal and not considered a fever in an infant. I'd call your doc and ask about it. ((hugs))

femi - 963 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My daughter had a high fever at 3 days old. I was told that, for newborns, you take them to the hospital immediately if there's a fever of 100.4 or higher. Over 3 months old, 101 often warrants a call to doctor / visit to hospital. Make sure you are checking his temperature anally! That can give you a better result and a better understanding of what to do. It sounds like you called the doctor and he gave you advice already. Follow his advice, but if you feel uncomfortable with his advice, then follow your gut and take him to the ER .... better safe than sorry. I'm sure you've looked at Baby Center, but here's the link anyway: http://www.babycenter.com/0_fever_84.bc
