2.5 months, excessive eye boogers/ blocked tear duct? Added: 962 days ago. Added by: tamm Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
Since he was born my baby has had really thick mucus constantly being produced into the corners of his left eye. it is significantly/ noticeably worse in his left eye. the doctor said it`s normal and just a blocked tear duct when he went for his first visit, and was not concerned. when he went for his 2monthold visit she gave him antibiotic ointment for his eye. it has not helped for 2 weeks and it seem to be making his left eye worse, and now the skin around that eye is a little swollen and red. dh will call the doctor tomorrow to see if maybe there`s a more effective solution, the stupid ointment isnt helping... has anyone had this problem?

my youngest daughter had that for almost the first yr of her life. i was given eye drops(dont remember the name-this was 10 yrs ago), and yes do the eye massage, warm cloths to keep the eye clean. hers was all cleared up before she turned a yr, the doc said it would eventually go away and it did..good luck

After reading your second post I was going to recommend massaging the eye as well. I also heard that using a drop of tea in the eye (black, obviously not hot or sweetened!) can help, though I've not done it personally.

my son had the same problem in both eyes. My doctor had me do an upward massage around the corner of his eyes. When doing this it brings out all kinds of gunk. It was real bad for a few months, but has eventually gotten better. Sons doctor told me it can take up to a year before it all clears out and if it doesn't then they can do surgery to open up the ducts. (his doctor didn't give any creams)

my son had this problem in both eyes, but was alot worse in his left...the right one cleared up when he turned 3 months...the left eye cleared up at about 4 months old....my doc told me the same thing about the clogged tear duct and that it usually clears before he hits the age of 1....well, i trusted my doc and she was right...so now he is boogey free(lol)...i know its a pain, but just try to keep it clean(warm washcloth every now and then) and i dont know if its what worked for my sons right eye clearing up ,but i would massage right on the inside of his nose by the tear duct just to move anything if it was stuck, and after doing that for a few night(probably about 3 days) it cleared up...good luck...i hope this helps!!

that makes sense, probably the antibodies in the breastmilk help clear infections... unfortunately i don't breastfeed because of medication i take for an autoimmune disease. i hope there's something else they can do for the little guy :-(

Breastmilk is incredibly effective at clearing up eye infections and clogged ducts. I put it in my daughter's eye for that problem and it cleared up in about 2 days. There's a page about it on this website too: http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/Things-no-one-tells-you/1214596739 Breastmilk also heals just about every cut and scrape. It's cool.
