Anyone give birth vaginally to a 10lb baby or more Added: 959 days ago. Added by: babytucci Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I need advice to figure out how to give bith to my 10lb baby boy. I am currently 39 weeks & need to make a decision if I should get induced tomorrow or plan a c-sction. The risks of inducing tomorrow is that he could get stuck in my birth canal & cause a lot of damage- even death. I really want to try vaginally before c-section. I`m just scared I`m taking too much of a chance with my babies life. What should I do? Should I just do c-section just to be safe? Ugh, what a hard decision to make!

Someone mentioned it and I agree - it depends on the size of your pelvis. If you are too small, there is no way in heck that baby is coming out. I am 5'9" and 160lbs - not a small girl frame-wise. However - I have a small pelvis and I had a very difficult time delivering vaginally a 7 1/2 lb baby!!! She was definitely a floater - she wouldn't come down into the birthing position and she went into distress twice. My dr induced me - I had gestational diabetes and she knew that I would have a hard time with anything over 7lbs. So ask your dr about the size of your pelvis - if he/she says your small - schedule the c-section. Good luck to you however you deliver!!! xox

if they went to induce you, there's a good chance that if your body couldn't do it then your labor wouldn't progress, you may not fully dialate. that's what happened with me at least, there's a period of waiting between the labor getting started and actually starting to push, so there's no harm in getting it started and seeing how it goes before making the decision to or not to c-section. it is possible, but you wont know until you try. <3 good luck!!

My Mom, who is 5'4", gave birth to all four of her kids vaginally. Not one of us was UNDER 10lbs! She had to have an episiotomy each time, but was able to have natural, un-medicated births - she does not believe in taking any medications so she felt it all....craaaazy lady LOL. I watched her give birth to my brother (now 6), and she never even wimpered, just got a little red in the face, it was astounding. She was just so focused and dead set on what she was doing - she totally zoned herself out. She was up and showering and eating just 20 minutes later. He was 12lbs! There is hope!

I would go for the vaginal to start, but ensure there is already an epi in place incase they have to do an emergency c-section, that wait they could do ir much faster. My grandmother at 4ft 9in tall gave birth to my dad who was over 12lbs, vaginally. It is possible to have the big baby naturally and it happens quite often, so IMO go for it, but be prepared for the c-section.

I think it is to risky ~ and a sudden emergency section is known to be more painful to heal from then a scheduled one. I had a 9 lbs 13.5 oz baby and had a section. I know a friend who had one a hair smaller and was made to deliver vaginally when she insisted on a section and she suffered horrible effects from it. Sadly she is unable to have any more children. Some can do 9 lbs some cant but 10 ~ no way I'd ever consider attempting. Ask if your baby is a floater ~ a floater is a baby that isnt dropping and engaging. Typically a sign the baby is def to big. My daughter is 7mo old, I had her in November, she was 10lbs 12oz. I had 2nd degree tearing, but really, wasn't much different from my first which was 8lbs. I healed very fast, epsom salt bath helped a lot.

it all depends on the shape of your pelvis.:::
http://books.google.com/books?id=EQw_bAmJmtQC&pg=PT173&lpg=PT173&dq=woman%27s+pelvis+shapes&source=bl&ots=JDfifUNnFP&sig=LqOmj7_c0IPO7IVL0-Ymseti2oU&hl=en&ei=oYdLSo7hJZGANuOesKgB&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4 ::::there are four pelvis shapes. even though i am a small built girl, i had the best shape for childbirth. i was 110 lb pre preg and 5'5. i had a 9.5 lb baby vaginally just fine. only push 15 min. didnt even tear. i am sure your doc has probly felt the shape of your pelvis, bc if it was un-favorable they probly wouldnt even let you try.

He will be closely monitored. Babies heart rates drop when they go into distress so the alarms will be going off then they will rush you for a c-section. Normally ultrasounds are off by alittle bit. Whatever decision you decide I hope you have a wonderful labor and delivery. Enjoy your baby boy :)

Wow, 13lbs! I'm just scared that my decision could cause harm to my unborn baby. The doc said that they wont know if he gets stuck in the birth canal until I push. Uh, this is too hard of a decision to make. I'm leaning more towards the vaginal birth.... I guess I'm just scared since this is my first.

I would try vaginally over major abdominal surgery. The weight of your baby could be off as well. There is no guarantee that he will be 10 pounds. Go with what you really want. They will monitor him the whole time and the moment they see something go wrong, they will take care of it. Don't miss out on something your body was meant to do out of fear. You and your little one will be fine. If it makes you feel any better my grandmother delivered a 13 pound baby vaginally...yikes! :)
