i decided not to give isaac juice cos its just not necessary and so sweet and even some of the natural ones have lots of additives and preservatives in. its personal choice really! isaac only has home made food and i prefer him to eat fruit and drink water rather than drink sweet juice.

oh my daughters dr. said that adding a tiny bit of sugar to the water helps babies take the water if the are refusing the bottle or spitting it out. that or a small amount of juice added to water. just thought id add that

i gave my daughter very watered down juice only bc she wouldnt drink water. all she wanted to drink was her formula to the point she was throwing it up. ive posted about that before though. so very watered down apple juice is pretty much all i gave her. now at 6 she drinks nothing but water or milk all day, and orange juice she loves orange juice, but she likes her bottled water more. just depends on the kid. i dont give her soda, she doesnt like it and never even asks for it. i dont think it has to do with my giving her watered down juice as an infant/toddler. i think its just her taste in what she likes. but its not going to hurt to give them a little watered down juice from time to time. my daughter was eating oatmeal and rice cereal by 2 months, every kid is different, every pediatrican will have slightly different advice for you. good luck! dont rush into feeding your baby anything youre not comfortable with. =)

The milk and food is more important than the juice. I gave it to my daughter but it was watered down and to this day (she is 2 1/2) and she AND I drink watered down juice.

There is really no need for juice at this point. Juice has a lot of natural sugars in it. If you are OK with adding that kind of sugar to your baby's diet, then go ahead, it won't necessarily hurt them. SOME babies don't have teeth issues from the juice, some do. I gave my daughter juice when she was 6 months, and I regret it. She hates milk and water, and only wants juice (she is amost 8 now). I do not give my son anything other than water or formula to drink. Tell your MIL that things have changed since she had babies. Here's the analogy I use for my mother when she says the "I did it and everything is OK" bit: It was not that many years ago that children didn't have to be in car seats. And we are OK. Does that mean we shouldn't use car seats? The whole "I did it and everything is OK, so everyone else should be able to do it" is a lot of crap.

i think its safe, but they dont need it so why do it, if you feel the want to have him drink some just mix it with water, no need for full strength :)

My son is now almost 3. I introduced him to juice at 4 months. He does not now or hasnt EVER had a problem taking water or milk even though he had juice at an early age, he actually loves water. Also his teeth are perfect! I guess it just depends on the child! Do what you feel is best... doctors don't always know eveything ( his doc told me not to give him water until he was ONE, that sounded crazy to me!) Good Luck in what ever decision you make!!!

at 1ish ~ there is no need for it now or any benefits other then sugar which they dont need. Water is much healthier. Kids should be happy with just pain water, for the benefits of fruit give real fruit :) Juice is wasted calories and I know to many who refuse water or milk as toddlers because they are addicted to juice and have a mouth full of teeth issues. JMHO We started Hunter on water first til 14 months then 4 oz water and a table spoon juice since then. He drinks water perfectly :) My older kids love water, some of my daycare kids and 4 nephews refuse pain water and will only take juice. If you feel you want it I'd do only an oz of juice to a full bottle of water. ((hugs))

ya thats fine dont let anyone tell you its not!! just only give 2-4 ounces per day so that you are not replacing any of the formula intake!!

Our pediatrician had us start juice at 2 months old because of constipation. So I'm sure your LO will be fine.

6 mon. but not orange juice until 12 mon. and even then be careful it can cause rash as can any juice you will want to introduce one at a time to make sure there are no allergies and I would start out half water half juice and really water is better juice still has a lot of sugar and they do get all they need from formula and breast milk. I really don't understand the fascination with the N-laws always wanting to give baby's more than they need mine do it all the time...I nursed for three years they hated it and I only allowed water they snuck soda and other things and now it is pain fighting with him. Not that yours would do the same but it should be your choice I think. My m-n-law also gave her son baby food at 6 weeks that doesn't mean I should too hehe:)

hey there, i jyst took my 6 month old son to the doctors last week and they told me to start introducing juice into his diet.only about 4 ounces a day.you could even do 2 ounces of water and 2 ounces of juice, so he can have it twice a day.I would def just call ur sons doctors office and ask a nurse if thats ok since hes 5 months.
