ok i know everytime i write it seems i have a problem, but unfortuantley no one will listen to me, they think im just being a hypocondriac. so you guys are who i turn to ;) my baby has reflux, not just spitting up, but miserable, he gets really stiff and starts crying and then minutes later up comes the vomit, he hates laying down which im sure is becuz its clearly uncomfortable, when he lays down he sticks his legs straight out (stiff) and starts to cry, during the night once he wakes up around 2 he just tosses and turns and whines ;( he is always trying to bend his body in half which im not sure if its becuz he is trying to sit up or trying to pass gas! he will spit up at least 3-4 times and then will spit up even about 2 hrs later, he is gaining weight fine, but just miserable and unsettled, he stopped cooing which im sure its becuz his throat is probable on fire? whenever he tries to laugh or coo, he either cries or chokes, and then gasps for air! and they say at 4 months is when it gets worse becuz baby tries to learn to sit up, which in return pushes on his stomach muscles and up comes the acid!!!!!!!! i just really want to enjoy my baby but how can i when he is clearly miserable?

dawnispregz - 955 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my lil one had terrible - i mean TERRIBLE reflux, to the point that no one really wanted to hold him- or if thy did they were wearing scruffy tshirts because he would vomit, everywhere, give him 4oz hed throw back 2-3oz, it not hypochondria at all, some babies(mainly boys) have reflux, its the plug in the stomach that stops us from vomiting that has not got strong enough yet to keep it down. It should clear up when on solids but they say it can last till around 14mths :( in the uk (not looked where you live) we have a powdered formula called Baby Gaviscon, you put it in the milk/water and just feed thru the bottle it makes the water/milk thicker so not as easy to throw up, it does take about a week for the formula to get working in the system, but it does work.it can only be obtained on prescription. go to ya doctor and tell him you want this because he has severe reflux, even 2 hours later from feeding. If he doesnt do anything go to your health visitor and tell her as they are more inclined to listen, my health visitor said gps arent brilliant with everything as they are GENERAL practitiones but they are specially trained in toddler and babies. It sounds like if he is drawing his legs to his tummy then he has cramps, but if he is lifting his body then it is just sitting up- but that squashes the tummy so spitting up will happen. In the house i used to make sure the house was warm enough and keep Joseph with just a nappy on because i was fed up of all the washing!

nutnut - 955 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) get a different pediatrican. you know more of what is going on with your baby bc you see whats happening every day. the dr. need to be treating appropriatly. get a new dr. they make this triangle shaped "mattresses" they look like wedges you can put that under the crib matress to lift up the head at night. dont use pillows or antyhing on top of the matress though always under the crib matress, unless its specially made baby wedge that can go on top of the matress safely. they make acid and gas drop for babies sold in any pharmacy. i had to give those to my daughter. the dr. said they were fine and would help her pass the gas better. good luck. i feel so bad poor little baby. hate to see them suffer. id get a new dr. =)

mariettap - 955 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have a blog on my page called "close call." Come by and read it. Then go see the pediatrician and ask for treatment for reflux. If you don't get taken seriously by your baby's doctor, then get a new doctor. Best wishes.

newyearsbb - 956 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) go to the doc and get some meds and also sleeping them in a swing on an incline like that seems to ease it , good luck and take care

loribb - 956 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hey, I sympathize with you, my baby had bad acid reflux until she started solids. My doctor just kept brushing it off because she was still gaining weight. You hate to see you baby in such discomfort though, I know. What I used to do, that I thought helped, was put towels under her crib mattress so that her head would be inclined a little. I also used gas drops to help with gassiness and wind. I also started putting rice cereal into her bedtime bottle to help keep it down. My baby used to scream whenever she was put on her tummy, then sure enough, she would spit up, no matter how long it was after a bottle. Because of this I think her rolling over was delayed. But if I had to go through it again, I would go to a diff doctor and try to get anti-acid medicine. Why make yourself miserable and have your baby uncomfortable too when there are things that can help.

summermum - 956 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Are you breastfeeding or is he formula fed? Reason I ask is my daughter had reflux really bad (she was a preemie) and we had to put her on Enfamil AR Lipil formula and once she started drinking that she never spit up once again. We used the Mylicon Drops for Gassiness and it helped some too. Dont be afraid to ask questions girl, that is what we are all here for. Hope you get some answers.

Austin::and::Alexs::Momma - 956 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Have you talked to his doctor about this? I only ask because they can give him reflux medicines that can help tremendously! My LO was on it for a little while and it really helped A LOT! It stopped the projectile vomiting and helped his irritability. My LO was also colic, thanks to that horrible gas issue he always had! So the first 5-6 months of his life he was one cranky, miserable baby. And it was rough! I had to give him gas drops in almost every bottle and always kept him propped after feedings and left him sleep propped up in his boppy pillow. If your LO sleeps in a crib they do have a wedge you can buy to put under his mattress to prop him. I hear a lot of people brag up gripe water, so thats something you could try on him, if you haven't already. My doctor also told me we could put 1 oz of rice cereal to 4 oz of formula, to help thicken it to help keep it down. I don't know if you ff or bf? But if you formula feed, have you tried switching to another kind? That could be a problem too, my LO was on 5 different formulas before we found one that actually worked best for him. He's now 7.5 months old and we have really seen a big difference in him, so hopefully your LO will begin to outgrow it too! Hang in there, I know how tough it can be!

julianasmommy - 956 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You can try adding thick-it to his bottle. I believe you can buy it at walgreens. Also, after his feed...hold him upright for about 20-30 minutes. See if that helps. With the preemies in the NICU that is what we do and it tends to help out alot.

alexaliff - 956 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This sounds somewhat similar to what I went through with my baby. He has always had really bad refulx and he had colic too. It sounds like your baby may possibley have colic too. When he bends himself it's him trying to pass gas. We had a chair with a vibrate on it and that seemed to help George when he had pains. At bed time we were advised to prop up the cot legs so that he was not completely flat on his back. To be honest this did not work with George and we ended up having to lay him on his side but it might work for your little one. It's safer than lying them on their side. George has always laid on his side and tummy though, he would never sleep on his back. The reflux I think is from the pockets of air pushing the milk back up. There are some colic drops that you can get too to give them before each feed. They don't like the taste but it does help a bit. Hope some of that helps. If you have any questions, I know how frustrating it is to have a baby with reflux : ) Good luck!
