Baby with eczema Added: 953 days ago. Added by: loribb Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I was just wondering if there are any moms out there who have a baby with eczema, or has had one with eczema. If so, what things do you do to help ease the symptoms?

In the baby section at walmart (next to lotions and baby wash) they have a cream for babies with eczema. My little boy had a spot on his back and that stuff cleared him right up and he's since outgrown it and nearly 6 with beautiful skin

Switch everything to hypoallergenic (fragrance & dye free) for everyone - bath soap, laundry soap, fabric softner, wipes, diapers, lotions, creams, etc. Don't use perfumes or if you do lay a blanket between you (that goes for anyone holding her/him). Bath them every other day and don't allow them much time in the water, after getting them out of the bath lather them down with mositurzing cream NOT lotion! Keep skin very moist. Monitor out breaks - I took notice my son has horrible outbreaks when he come in contact with polyester! Don't over use hydrocortizone it thins babys skin out! Be careful when starting new foods! Thats all I can think of for now - I'll be back if anything else comes to mind!

I don't know if my response got sent to you or not, so I'll try again! My daughter has had eczema since she was 3 months old and is now 20 mon. It has since moved from her head and face to her legs and arms and is getting better as she gets older, but still flares up and usually still don't know why. You should see a PEDIATRIC dermatologist and an allergist. The derm will get her skin cleared up and help you keep in under control and the allergist will refer you to a nutritionist that will give you some diet ideas. Before we found out she had allergies, the derm gave us a steriod to use to clear it up and then told us to stick to vasaline and washing her with only cetaphil. Also, ALL free and clear detergent and ALL free and clear dryer sheets, zinc oxide for sun protection instead of sunblock and Tooshies or White Cloud diapers. Basically, don't put anything on her that has fragerance in it. This may seem overwhelming at first, but you get used to it and it's helped a lot. I've heard a lot of people swear by Eucerin too, but we didn't have much luck w/it. Every case is different though and some more severe than others (her face was pretty severe at the time), so it's important you talk to a ped. derm. and not just a regular derm. Hope this helps !!!!

I used baby aveeno regularly, and hydrocortizone for big flare ups. He's nearly 9 months now and I haven't seen any eczema in a couple months.

yes my son has eczema, we have been battleing it since birth. i stictly use the Aveeno brand baby wash, lostion, diaper cream etc etc, and i lotion him up really good after every bath. when he was little i was told by doctor to go 2-3 days in between baths so his own skin oils will help him, now that he is 4 and comes home head to toe dirt from daycare that isnt realy an option but it seemes to work and we keep it under control

Iron. Steam gets rid of everything. It prevented my daughter to develop eczema for life. Now she is almost 6 and has beautiful skin.

I have eczema and when it flares up I take a bath in baby oil and rub hidrocortizone on it. My three yr old has a spot on his leg that I also rub with the Hydro. cream.
