HPV & Pregnancy

I have the HPV virus which has caused me to have irregular paps for years. I`ve had had multiple colposcopies & a couple different procedures done to my cervix to remove the `bad` cells. I`m now 11 weeks pregnant (after having a MC at 13 weeks 8 months ago). My OB/GYN is familar with my cervical history, so she decided to do a colposcopy at my last appointment. She said that although my cervix had healed from the previous procedures that the `bad` cells were back again. She was confident that it`s not cancer, however she didn`t want to do a biopsy at this point in my pregnancy. She wants to see me again in two weeks to review the results of my pap, and then again in six weeks to do a second colposcopy & likely do a biopsy at that point in time. I`m wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of situation. If you do, I have several questions about

I have had both done. They don't interfere with pregnancy but if you have warts like I do then I may not be able to do a vaginal birth and it would have to be c-section. I will know more tomorrow.

cuddlebunnymeg - 952 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I also have the hpv virus and had gotton abnormal pap smears. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow morning and they are going to check. I have warts on my cervix but no where else. The hpv virus strain I have is not cancer cells but they cause warts on the cervix. Most of the time the virus clears itself but the doctor said because I am pregnant they will either stay the same, get larger, or disappear. More then likely they will have gotton bigger because of the pregnancy hormone in my body. I am 29 weeks and my appt is to check on them. If you like you can ask me questions if you have any.

athenaB1984 - 952 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I have a colpo next week...I am dreading it!!! I've had two, and I am refraining from interourse for 2 weeks just to see if that helps my results any. I heard sperm and sex can effect your cervix and may interfere with results..lol..Im holding on to every bit of hope. They told me everything might just clear up on it's own after having my baby..my pap came back abnormal after I had my daughter..so they were wrong.. =(

MrsHilde75 - 952 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Oh, I meant to say that as of now, they feel the only procedure I had done would have disfigured or affected my cervix is the LEEP. I only had one so that's a plus.

MrsHilde75 - 952 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Girl - I'm 33 years old & I've been dealing with the exact same thing for about 10 years!!!! It truly sucks, I feel your pain. I have had more colposcopies than I can even remember, I've 1 laser surgery, several cryosugeries, and in 2006 I had a LEEP. I am now pregnant due between Jan. 26th & Feb. 5th (LMP & baby measurements are conflicting). Anyway, I go on the 24th of this month to the Perinatal unit so they can measure my cervix. Based on that they will determine if I need to have the cervical cerclage. But as for all you've been through...my OBGYN has always said, if you get pregnant, maybe that will solve your problems, apparently it's been known to happen. Funny thing, I've had only 1 normal pap in 10 years (& I have to go every 3 to 6 months because of all my problems). So when I went to have my exam & 1st u/s on June 19th, they did the pap. Mind you my last one came back "abnormal", in January. I was supposed to see a specialist...again! I kept putting it off & putting it off and next thing you know I'm pregnant - after 3 years of trying!!!! So when she did my pap in June, low & behold it came back fine. I almost fell off my chair (she called me with the results). She told me she even did a double take to make sure she had the right chart! She said she's seen improvements after delivery but rarely before! But hey I'll take it! I think if they want to do a 2nd colpo and biopsy it's to check for any differences & changes from the last. That's important I think, how those bad (or abnormal) cells are or aren't progressing. It sucks! I know!!!!

novinsmommy09 - 952 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i have had irregular paps for a couple yrs too they wanted to do a coloposcopy when iwas pregnant but i didnt let them i felt it was too dangerous and i didnt want mess my cervix. i never had a problem with my pregnancy until i fell and it induced labor at 35 weeks

coolnessa8 - 952 days ago Opps, I hit send too soon. :) I meant to say - if you do, then I have several questions regarding what her concerns are with these bad cells. She said that the cells woudln't affect the pregnancy, and that the pregnancy wouldn't make the bad cells worse, but if that's so - then why do a second colposcpy & biopsy? Thanks in advance!
