Had mine done at week 36 and again at wk 40. Both times it hurt but nothing to lose sleep over. I would say it's more of a feeling of discomfort. If your doctor knows what he or she is doing, it will be over real quick. Neither time worked for me, I ended up being induced and then had an emergency c-section. Good luck!

I had mine done at 40 weeks and it Hurt!!!! Have someone with you to hold your hand. You will need it. However it did not work for me. I have to be induced. My friend had hers done and she went over to the hospital and had her baby that day. I guess it depends on weather your cervix is ready or not. Good luck!!!!!

This isnt a stupid question! But yes it does hurt... military mommy took the words outta my mouth, lol. I had mine done at 30 wks 4 days and I went into labor within 24 hrs. I did have pitocin when I was admitted into the hospital to speed up my contraction. Good Luck!

Yes, it hurts. Basically, your doctor will insert their finger into the opening in your cervix and swirl their finger around. It will stretch your cervix and ideally will bring on labor without any need for pitocin. However, it does not always work. I had mine swept on my due date, but my cervix was still so tightly closed that it was nearly impossible and ended up going 9 more days before my water broke. Good luck, depending on your doctor it can be anywhere from really uncomfortable to very painful.
