When`s the earliest you started rice cereal? And, how exactly do you make it..water, formula, juice, baby food? My baby is 3 months and still eating every 2 hours! She`s hungry! :)

loribb - 949 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Hi, I started my daughter on rice cereal when she was 3 1/2 months. I bought the kind that was mixed with formula and mixed it really runny, like 4 parts formula to 1 part cereal. Now I can't find the kind you mix with formula anymore. But she is 8 months and has moved on to different kinds of cereal. By the way, our parent's parents also fed them solids at an early age. Not just OUR parents. Also... why are allergies at an all-time high now when most people go by the book and feed their LO starting at 6 months age? Maybe the obesity rate is so high because of the fat content in our food?? No one can say for sure it's because we feed our babies rice cereal at 3 or 4 months of age. We should rely more on our mommy instinct and less on so called 'expert opinion' How did mommy's know when and what to feed their children before there were 'experts'?

jaydsmom - 949 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) IMHO LizetteCheree just kind of proved taragail's point. Our parents fed us on solids really early, and there is something seriously wrong with us. Allergies are at an all time high, and obesity is a HUGE problem in the US and Canada. Hmmmm...

krystiannoah - 949 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My son will be 6 months on the 15th and he eats at least 50oz a day(formula). I tried starting him at 3 months but he didnt seem interested. He still wont eat off of a spoon, so i just mix a little in with his bottle, but it still doesnt work, so i have to deal with him eating 50oz a day. he's such a little pig !

LizetteCheree - 949 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I was just thinking bout something. Our parents(not everyones parents) started us on solids like cereal at bout 2 months and is there something seriously wrong with us??I doubt. So id say listen to ur instinct and do what u feel.I think paeditricians and docs are taking away a moms natural instinct. This solid thing is gotten blown out of porpotion.JMHO:-).That said i only started my dd on cereal(not rice cereal coz she hated it) at 4 1/2 months.Hope thios helped:-)

taragail - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You need to seriously consult a professional about such a decision. Starting children on solid food so early can have so many consequences that are not seen until the children are older. Allergies can form. Allergies can be a gradual build-up, not just something that happens right away. The other problem (which I am very familiar with as I am a nutritionist) is obesity. Not necessarily in the babies, but when they get a bit older. It is widely know in my field that giving an infant cereal too young can cause them to NEED the full feeling they get from the cereal. So as they get older, they eat more and more so they can get that feeling that you have ingrained into them since infancy. Not all children have this happen, and I am sure there are mothers out there who will say it didn't happen to their child, but it happens more often that not. Also, giving a small baby juice, although not physically harmful, gives babies a lot of sugar they do not need.

jensoon2bmomof3 - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I started both of my children on cereal at 1 month, and I plan to do the same with this one. I would spoon feed them. I would only give them a little to start out with - about a teaspoon, then mix it with formula. When you start off, you want it thin, and as the baby gets used to it, you can thicken it little by little. Most doctors I have heard of say to wait until 4 months, but my baby was hungry, so my baby was eating. My doctor knew I started them on cereal that early, and didn't really say anything about it.

mother649808 - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My twins started at 2 months and they were two months premature. They did fine with it. We sometimes mix it with formula and frit or just juice. They don't like it at all with water.

happyforest - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) oh and i mixed it with breastmilk while i was still breastfeeding and now i mix it with formula. i also put 1/2 container of fruit in it to make the flavor better and he loves it!

happyforest - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i started cereal at 2.5 months bc a liquid diet wasnt working for him anymore. he was so hungry and would drink 40 oz! so we tried rice but it constipated him, our doctor said try oatmeal instead and it was great! he had slept through the night since 6 weeks anyway, so i dont know if it helped with sleeping, but we gave it in a spoon, NOT the bottle.

nutnut - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i did it about 6-8 weeks bc my daughter would drink so much formula she would bloat and throw it up. she was always acting like she was starving. her pediatrican told me it was fine to mix alittle of the rice cereal with her formula. we even had formula with added rice in it already and it still wasnt heavy enough for her. she could hold her head up pretty good, so by 2 months i was spoon feeding it to her. it was still rather thin, but a small amount of it along with her bottles seemed to keep her full and limited the amount of spit up. most dr. will advise not to feed them anything until 6months. but mine said it was fine bc my daughter needed something to keep in her belly. i used the formula from the can mixed with the rice cereal i just went by looking at it, so not sure how much of each. just thick enough to keep it on the spoon. she was sleeping through the night too once we started feeding her by spoon.

juels101 - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) In Canada they recomend 6mo, which worked for my first baby, but my latest was interested at 5. I believe your supposed to use either formula or your breastmilk with rice cereal. I'm not gonna recomend it but I"ve heard of people adding rice cereal to the bottle to make it more rich, but you should look into that before trying it as I've only heard of it ^_-.

RobinG - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Have you increased the oz you are feeding if bottle feeding? Sounds like growth sport time. Plus make sure your LO isnt just wnating to suck, offer a paci to see if that soothes. If it does then your LO just wanted to suck but not eat (()) Unless there is reflux it is def to soon for cereal IMO but I know some do ~ (())

xolblondieox - 950 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I started cereal in my twins' bottles at 6 weeks of age and they slept 12 hours through the night, just one night later! At 8 weeks of age they were taking it by spoon. I make it with formula. At 8 weeks I was mixing 3TBS cereal with 3oz formula. The longer you stir or let it sit for, the thicker it will become. I gave it to them relatively thick so that I could keep it on the spoon long enough to get it in their mouths LOL

LGK616 - 951 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Before you give it to her, check with your doctor! I felt my daughter was hungry too and as I was breastfeeding, was concerned she wasn't getting enough at 4 months. But I just fed her more often and was advised to not give her rice cereal until her 6th month. I held off until then and she is fine. They say the 6th month for risk of developing allergies. I make the cereal with water - or sometimes with my breastmilk as I am still breastfeeding.
