I really really dont like breastfeeding but i know that this is the best thing for my son. I want to continue giving him breast milk but i was wondering if anyone has ever just pumped all the time and fed your baby that way and howd it turn out or if its even worth it??

i really wanted to breast feed, but when my daughter was 3 days old i got "rocks" in one of boobs (clogged up) and i had to pump. well i gave her that pumped milk in a bottle and it ruined her! she never wanted anything to do with the boob again! i had to eventually give up and pump only. i just stopped pumping a couple of days ago. my daughter is 9 1/2 months old. i pumped every 4-6 hours (or at least tried to) for 9 months! it takes alot of dedication and hard work. you really have to want to do it. i am a strong believer in the power of the "liquid gold". my daughter has never been to the dr. for being sick, shes only had 2 minor head colds. i fully attribute her healthiness to being a breast fed baby! its totally worth it!

I have a friend who strictly pump fed her daughter for over a year. She invested in a really good pump and froze any excess so she always had some on hand. Her doctor put her on domperidone, which increases your milk flow A LOT. She had to do this because her daughter had a high pallet and couldn't get proper suction as well her daughter was born with no arms, hips, femurs so she wanted to give her the best start should could. It worked very well for her.

How old is your baby?? I think that a lot of BF'ing Mommy's go through times when they just feel like a "boob machine". For me it usually hit around the time my baby was 6 weeks old, which is also around the time they hit a growth spurt and just wanna nurse all the time, but if you hang in there, I think you'll be glad you did. The "slump" will pass and you'll enjoy it rather than dread it. Good Luck!! *Oh, and if you pump, get a GOOD pump - it makes a difference!! Find one on Ebay for less $. I loved my Ameda Purely Yours!*

Hi, my son is now 18 month old but I exclusively pumped from the time he was 6wks till he was 9 1/2 months. He refused to nurse but I couldn't afford formula and I wanted him to have breastmilk. I used a Medela Pump in Style and my supply never lowered. I had an oversupply as it was...I guess I'm just lucky. But I was able to provide him only breastmilk for 9 months just by pumping. It was hard and yeah, got really annoying! But I think it was definitely worth it! If nothing else, for teh money I saved! I also lost a ton of weight which was another incentive for me. It can definitely be done and I would do it again !

I've been bf for over 6 years now, non stop, not the same child, i'm in child #4 and i did pumped couple of times for baby number #2 and #3 because i was working at that time, but the milk has a different taste and the baby didnt really liked it from the bottle, so that didnt worked out for us, I stopped working because i didnt wanted to stop bf, my last baby right now is 16mths and I am trying to take her off already cause she has teeth and she bites now, so it is very painful at times. But I do love bf, it builds a special bond between your child and you, you should give it a try. I remember my first time was difficult and I almost gave up, but the nurses in the hospital helped me alot and with patience and many tries i got it right and after a while it all came natural......Good luck and keep up the good job...

every time i pumped instead of bf, my supply lowered, till eventually it was so bad that i had to quit bf. i would bf as long as possible, pumping rarely, bc once you start pumping over bf, it all goes downhill, that was my expierence anyway

you can but since pumping isnt as effective as feeding from the breast alot of people lose supply. id try and establish a good supply first before going to exclusively pumping. and i just wanted to let you know that breastfeeding does get so much easier after a bit. i dont know why you dont like it but if its because it hurts i just thought you should know that it does get much easier!

i think it all depends on your body...i had to pump because my son was born 6wks early and in the NICU. but i was only able to pump for 4wks before i dried up. other moms have been able to pump for 12 months and never breastfeed. so i think it all depends.

I am currently exclusively pumping now. Try breastfeeding as long as possiable to establish your supply. I did until my son was 4 months old, he is 6 months now so I have been pumping exclusively for 2 months. It is possiable, just make sure your supply is established beforehand.

I didn't but my best friend did. She took a hand breast pump with her that connects to a bottle, and rather than breast feedign she fed on demand pumping. It works great for her, she is still doing it ^_-
