ok so i have two questions....my doctor is inducing me on Tuesday and he told me that he was going to put a catheter in me to induce me and before i could ask him why he left the room....why would he have to put a catheter in me to induce me...i`ve never heard of that being a way to induce someone....my second question is this...i got a nst done on Friday and every thing was fine...i go back to the doctor Monday and he wants to do another one...since im being induced Tuesday is there a reason to do another one?

I agree with M2G- tell them you don't want a catheter until it's totally necessary. I had an epi with both babies and never needed a catheter- the threat of one was enough to make me go lol But the main thing is, don't let your doc just make all of the decisions without informing you why- it's YOUR body, and your baby. good luck!

The only reason to have a catheter is b/c you are having an epidural. So unless he is giving you the epi right away, i wouldn't think you need it. The NST should be done before an induction b/c sometimes inductions can be stressful to the baby and you want to make sure all is good and healthy before that.

I owuld be refusing te catheter at this point. There is no need for it so early on. The nst is just to ensure baby is fine, doing another one is no big deal - and it will probably let the DR's know if they should induce you Monday or wait until Tues. It's common practice when you are over due.

I'm not sure why you would need one for an induction, but I had to get one after being in labor with my first son. His head didnt come all the way down beause my bladder was full and blocking the way. As soon as they put it in he dropped ALL the way down. Good Luck!

i wasn't thrilled about the idea of a foley catheter either when i was induced but i tell you it really relieved alot of pressure and i was so much more comfortable with it in! i wouldn't see why you would need another nst unless the baby just isn't moving like it should be

hun i don't know what's up with the catheter when i was induce they first put a gel in and when that did'nt do it they did a pitocin iv line the next morning but no catheter, you should really call and find out what it's about after all it's your right as a patient to be kept informed so you know and understand everything that's going on :)
