I went for my first ultrasound july 9th and the doctor saw a white spot on the babies heart...he said it could be down`s (1 %) he reccomended a genetic counseling which I went to today and I had to make a decision by 4pm today whether or not I wanted to do the amnio... I been very stressed and worried ever since the day the doctor said it could have it... do you think I made the right decision in not doin the amnio?? Also I went to another doctor for a second opinion and he wasn`t really worried infact he said it could be calcium deposit that its rare but im really scared ,for the fact I did do my quad screening but the doctor never wrote down what the blood was for so when it got to the lab the blood was to old to test so I redid the quad a couple days ago ..the doc made that mistake and it could lead to me having a baby where something is wrong and for me not knowing soon enough.. And since today was my last day to do the amnio im kinda asked out...has anyone had a similar situation to mine...this is my first pregnancy and I can honestly say none of the doctors at the clinic I go to ever did there job right.. What do you guys think I shuld do or what u think will be the outcome of my pragnancy? My baby shower is in 2 months and can`t really plann or have prepared do to not knowing the sex of the baby

My dr said she was sorry to even tell me about it because it is most likely nothing but she was obligated to say something. I too went and saw a genetic counselor and they redid the ultrasound with a high risk doctor performing it. Did you have another ultrasound done? At that ultrasound the dr didn't see anything but she also did special measurements of the baby to look for any other signs of downs. The only one I can remember is measuring the pinky finger. I was then given the option to still go ahead with the amnio but I decided not to since the high risk dr didn't see anything. if it was still there, then I most definitely would have had an amnio. Why do you say it is too late to do an amnio? If it is going to ease your mind by doing an amnio, I would say do it. i know I couldn't go through the rest of my pregnancy not knowing, I would stress too much which isn't good for the baby either. Good Luck, I'm sure everything will be fine.

That is very common- my son had the same thing, and the tech told us 4% of babies have it (which is alot) and it usually goes away by the 3rd trimester. They didn't even suggest an amnio for me. If that is the only thing they found, then there's no reason to panic. But I know that's easier said than done- I stressed until my next ultrasound, but the spot was gone by then, and my son was born happy and healthy.

mylittleman - 945 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Man, docs say this ALOT! I was told teh same thing w/ my son and I know many people who were told that as well. We actually had a cardiologist at a 2nd ultrasound and he said it is actually very common and they do not worry about it. My son was fine. If that is the only marker they found I would put it right out of your head. That is not enough to go by and I hate that so many people go through that unnecessary stress! Good luck and I know everything will be fine!!!!

jumpingbean - 945 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my daughter had a very dark spot on her heart that stopped the doctor from being able to get a clear view of the valves in all her ultrasounds. She turned out to be just fine.

Gigantor - 945 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I had the same with my daughter. I refused amnio. It turns out this is a very common thing that bright spot (either calcium deposit, or whatever) shows up on ultrasounds. My daughter came out to be perfect.

diane-taketwo - 945 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My little boy had the calcification on his heart at 20 weeks, but it was gone by 27 weeks. I'd say everything is just fine :)

kimmarie - 945 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Rather than worry the rest of the pregnancy I would definitely have done the amnio. Not that will change things but it will keep you from constantly thinking about the what if's.
