Cindie - 943 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It depends on the type of DS. Basically you either Have it, or you carry a "balanced" translocation, meaning you have a piece of #21 chromosome attached to another one of your chromosomes, usually #14 for some reason. This will give you a higher chance of a child with DS, usually anywhere from a %5-10 chance. Otherwise, they'll give you chances based ONLY on bloodwork/Any soft markers on Ultrasound, and your age and possibly your NT scan. A NT Scan is ONLY accurate if it's done between weeks 11-13 if it's done before or after or in the early 11th or late 13th week it is likely INACCURATE. My baby boy was born with DS, I'm 22 yrs old (was 21 at the time) and there is noone either in hubby or my side's who have ds. I love medical stuff so I have researched it.

bebe77 - 944 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My understanding from what I have read is that it depends on the type of DS. My step-son has DS but my husband's and my daughter does NOT have it, nor does his other daughter from the previous marriage. My husband said that when his son was born, he was tested for it and his kind was NOT hereditary.

lisab123 - 944 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My cousin is down syndrome and my dr. knows it but does not seem concerned. She is going to do blood work at 12 weeks and if something comes up abnormal then she will do the amnio. I had a son and he was perfectly fine. I think it depends on your dr of what they want to do or how serious they think it is. I have not found it to be hereditary in our family.

mother649808 - 944 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Yes it is heriditary!

xolblondieox - 944 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is genetical...with a bunch of other factors. If you had a brother or cousin with it, you would be consiered high risk for passing it on to your children.

mommy-ofa-boy - 945 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) any ones child can come out with down syndrome. mainly woman in 30s or higher though
