ok well my baby girl just turned 5 weeks on saturday and shes drinking about 3 and a half ounces of formula and she eats about every 3 to 4 hours sometimes even 2 and a half hours...it just depends but for the last 4 or 5 days she acts really grumpy after she eats and will put her hands in her month and ill give her the binky and that helps sometimes but then sometimes it doesnt help and she`ll spit it out and keep being fussy and then ill try and put it back in and she start sucking it really hard like shes trying to get something out but once she knows nothing is coming out she gets mad again so i was wondering if its ok for my 5 week old baby to be taking in 4 ounces of formula....like i know your supposed to up there formula like if they seem to still be hungrey after there feedings but is that to much?

RobinG - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Be careful though over burping can cause spit up ~ and isnt always a sign of over feeding, esp since overfeeding is very rare since babies will push bottle away when full. Over burping is common (esp with new bottles that reduce air and liguid formulas which reduce air) because not all babies have a bubble and moms can continue to burp and burp trying to get one and it leads to spit up cause there wasnt a bubble ((hugs))

nicnmicsmom - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) oh....and there is a formula for how much she should be eating over a 24 hour period...I believe it's 2/5 ounces per pound. So if she weighs 8 pounds, multiply 8 by 2.5 and that's how much formula she should be getting over a 24 hour period. Sometimes it might only be 2 oz's at a time and othertimes more like 4.

nicnmicsmom - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Every baby is different. My 3.5 week old sometimes drinks 4 ounces and at other times only 2. Just make sure to burp her really well. If she throws it up, you know you've overfed her.

happyforest - 926 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) its different for every baby. try giving her more, if she acts happy and content then thats what she needed. if she doesnt want more she will spit it out and stop drinking.

momof2beauties - 926 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Its def ok to up her formula intake if she is giving you cues that she still might be hungry. For instance sucking on her fist or crying or fussing. I did that with my daughter Lilly.

RobinG - 926 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) My boys were drinking 4 oz at 2-3 weeks and by 5 weeks 5-6 oz so it is DEF ok it up it :) My doc said the best way to know if they got their fill is to make 5 oz and see how much is left after he pushes bottle out when he is full to gage oz needed (they always do and never over eat) add half oz til this occurs. There should always be about half an oz left in bottle when they eat what they "need" versus what they are limited to :) Make sense? ((hugs))

sazauk - 926 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) If you think that she is hungry try more formula and see how she goes, if it is too much she will let you know about it.

mamalvs4 - 926 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i would try it, if its too much she will let you know when you burp her......i would make sure she isnt just gassy too, they may cause her to be fussy too
