Now that I have your attention!!! LOL!! I ahve a 3 month old and I was wondering at what age do you start feeding them cereal (from a spoon)??? And also what age do you start feeding them jar food. She throws up her milk, but she is gaing weight so the doc is not concerned!!! What do I do???

xaviersmom - 924 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I started my son on rice cereal mixed in with his formula when he was 3 months old and now he'll be 6 months on the 18th and he's been eating jar food for almost a month now. I was rather hesitant of rice cereal at first but the advice my mom gave me was that some babies have bigger appetites and the formula alone was just not enough for him. I hope this helps!

happyforest - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) it depends on your baby. the only way to know is to try. dont expect it to go perfectly the first time, it will be messy until she gets used to the spoon. i started my son at 2.5 months bc he was so ready for it, but some babies arent ready until later. only YOU and BABY know when is the time. NOT a book or a doctor that doesnt even know or see you escept every few months. you are the one feeding your baby every day and knowing their eating habits and needs.

xela - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I started rice cereal at 4 months and started veggies at 5 months- my son's doctor said it was fine!

nicnmicsmom - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) They say not to start any cereal or solids until at least 4 months so I think your baby might be a little too young yet to introduce that. Does your baby actually throw up? Or just spit up a bit? If she's actually throwing up, she may have reflux and your doc can actually start her on medicine that will help with that. OR you could be overfeeding her. Some babies aren't as good as others about stopping when they're full, especially if they have reflux.....just a thought.

abbyquiet - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) my son seemed to spit up a lot when he was younger and when i discussed it with the doctor(a bunch of times) they never seemed conserned, basically said that what he would throw up would look like a lot, but it wasn't really that much, especially if he's gaining weight. i didn't start cereal till 4 or 5 months and jar food at 6 months. basically at that age, it's just a learning process, learning to eat the food, how to swallow it. it's not meant to sustain like the milk is. at least that's how i always understood it anyways.

larryslady - 925 days ago THANK YOU MS BLONDIE!!!

xolblondieox - 925 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Well you start feeding solids when you feel that she is ready. At least that's my opinion. Some people are hard core by the books and think you cannot start until 4-6 months, because you will cause everything from permanent obesity to allergies to intestinal/digestive problems. It's made to sound quite dramatic. But if it were true then me and about 30 cousins and siblings would all be fat, food allergic adults with Crohn's Disease...not the case...not for one of us. I say you're the Momma and know better than any book or doctor! Anyway, always start with cereal first. The white rice (it's the least likely to cause allergic reaction). If that constipates her then you can try oatmeal. After that is well established you move to veggies (yucky ones first) and then fruits. My twins were spoon feeding cereal at 7 weeks of age and they started fruits and veggies at 12 weeks. Again, it's personal preference and you be the judge. When you introduce the cereal be sure to mix it with formula or breastmilk and only start off once per day. I prefered to offer it at their nighttime feeding, but again it's preference. Then you bump up to two or more times per day and then onto fruits and veggies. It really is it's own natural progression and you'll see...she will show you LOL. Also, always give a bottle/breast first and then feed the solids. They love the solids so much that they'll go on a hunger strike for more and not want their "yucky old milk" LOL. Good luck to you and if you have any further questions let me know!
