Any idea why my son`s penis is enlarged?

All day my son has had a swollen, enlarged penis, particularly at the base, and the area above his penis. I rang the parent helpline and explained that it`s almost like he has an erection but he`s not having any difficulty peeing and it`s not causing him any discomfort. She said that so long as it`s not swollen at the tip, and he`s urinating and not in pain, that it should be ok (and that it`s normal for baby boys to get erections?! WTF?!) He`s not quite 6 months old and he`s not circumcised. Is it something I should be concerned about?

Mumbo - 922 days ago I took my son to the Dr this morning and everything seems normal, so it just looks like I have a little horn-bag on my hands - great! I thought I had another 12-13 years before having to worry about this sort of stuff! hehe!

nutnut - 922 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) it is normal for them to get erections. my friend's little boy had it happen all the time, and when he was around 2 he would take it out and show ppl when it happened. we were in the grocery store once and it happened he stood up in the cart and showed the cashier "look how big it gets". my friend was laughing, the cashier was a little embarassed. i wanted to tell my friend not to laugh at him when he does that bc then he will keep showing it off lol. he grew out of it tho. (well the showing ppl part) lol!

Diane-taketwo - 922 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Baby boys do indeed get erections :) and around six months is when my boy decised his was fantastic to play with (he's 14 months now)! When I was in hospital waiting for my son to be born (long story, I was there for over two months) I used to get ultrasounds twice a week. On one of them when I was around 34 weeks pregnant, we could see him there with a little erection, and he was grabbing at it! lol. Does your son seem to have it only when he's getting a diaper change or a bath, or does it seem constant, like the swelling never subsides? Keep his diaper off for a little while and see what happens. When my son gets one, it usually only swells up for a minute or two and then goes back to 'pre swollen' state - he also has no trouble peeing when he has it, in fact at bath time he always pees in the potty before getting in the water, and I have to hold him over the toilet or else he will pee straight up in the air! If your son seems to have it all the time, perhaps take him to his doctor just to make sure he's not got any issues with blood flow to his penis. I'm sure it is perfectly fine, but if you are concerned, a doctor will be able to tell you for sure!
