What`s safe to have in a baby`s crib? Added: 919 days ago. Added by: mommy2lucas Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I am going to be setting up Lucas` crib within the next couple of weeks and I`m not sure about whats alright to have in there? I`ve heard different things about the bumper and I know to not have a blanket in there, but are sheets and all that alright? A family member said bare mattress and that`s all because he can suffocate in the bumper and sheet? Is this true?

Everyone I know has swaddled their baby (wrapped them up in a light blanket) or had one of those sleeping bag things, it has sleeves but the bottom is like an enclosed sleeping bag with a zipper up the front. I would feel strange just putting poor baby to bed with nothing!

A bare mattress is a hazard b/c of the material of the mattress. You should have a tight fitted sheet on the mattress and that's it. As for blankets - you can buy a blanket bag that the baby wears - it stops them from getting all tangeled in everything.

A sheet is a must have. I couldn't imagine just laying on my bed with no sheets so I wouldn't do it to my babies. I used bumpers with my first 2 but my twins have a habit of scooting over and putting their faces right in the bumper pad! And in our small town I can't find the mesh ones so we just don't use them. If your Lucas acts as if he's cold without a blanket then just use a real thin receiving blanket. That's always done the trick for us!

i had crib sheets in the crib, not the bare mattress. no pillows,no blankets. i used the bumper. i swaddled my daughter. i didnt put her to sleep in the crib for a few monts. she slept in the basinet by my bed for as long as she fit and didnt wiggle. i dont remember the exact age bc it was 7 years ago lol.

ive never used bumpers but i have used blankets from the day she came home, because it was cold here and she would have froze without one. i think a sheet is a must have.

I've always used a bumper for my son, he's never had any problems - you're supposed to put the baby at the bottom of the cot anyway, and the strings on ours are really short so I really dont understand the danger there. Duvet (toddler one) since he was 8 months - when he started to take off his sleeping bag! And a well-fitted sheet and a few of his favourite teddies :) I don't see how a baby can suffocate UNDER a bedsheet?? What are they guna do - in their sleep, pull up one corner of the sheet and crawl underneath it?? lol

you should have a tight-fitting sheet (any baby-crib sheet should fit) you should try to get a baby to sleep without a blanket if you can while they are really small. you could swaddle them or buy a blanket sleeper. once your baby can move around and roll around (able to move a blanket off of its face) then a light blanket that is breathable could be put in. the mesh breathable bumpers are the best!! if the baby rolled their face into the side of the crib, the would still get air, yet they won't be getting their legs and arms stuck through the bars like they would with no bumper at all. we didnt have to use any bumper until he was around 6 months bc he didn't really crawl and roll around in his crib that much before then.

Sheets are fine for sure!! They say to only use smaller type blankets, no big puffy comforters, pillows ect. Also, they say if you use bumper pads to only use the mesh/"breathable" type or none at all(to prevent SIDS/increase the air flow around the baby's head). These are the recommendations right now however, I also used bumperpads with both my boys. Just don't add all kinds of puffy things/stuffed animals ect.

I've never heard of anyone not using a sheet ~ I personally wouldnt ever consider it, a sheet is a must for me. I used bumpers with all three kids and a small security blanket too. some say no to bumpers some say yes, its up to you. There are mesh bumpers you can buy too :)
