A hurricane is coming, what do I do?!? Added: 914 days ago. Added by: angela-and-jay Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I live in Puerto Rico and we are expecting a terrible hurricane on wednesday or thursday... I just moved here 10 months ago and have never been through a hurricane and I will be 37 weeks when the hurricane gets here. My doctor is going to check my cervix on Tuesday and said that if I am 2-3 cm dilated that she would be willing to induce me so I can have the baby and be home before the storm hits so that I don`t risk the possibility of going into labor during or after the hurricane and risk possibly not being able to get to the hospital in time to deliver. Plus, this baby is a couple pounds bigger than my last and I really struggled to vaginally deliver my last one so I may need a c-section this time. :( Of course I ultimately have to decide if I want to be induced or not and can`t decide! My husband is back and forth about it because on one hand it prevents us from being in a potentailly life threatening situation where I`m in labor and we can`t get to a hospital and the baby is too big to be born vaginally. However, being induced on Tuesday also means that they will probably send me home early so I won`t be in the hosppital for the usual 2-3 days. Likewise we will be dealing with a newborn during a huge hurricane along with our 21 month old daughter, and the power and water could be out for up to a month following the storm! So, with all that in mind, does anyone have any advice or words of encouragement? I`m not sure what to expect because I have never lived through a hurricane... All I know is that I am already 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced as of last Thursday and my baby has been engaged and in possition for 3 weeks now... Please help me decide what to do!

Maybe u should look into another hospital if you decide not to be induced. I dont think your doctor would put you or your baby in any danger and traveling with a newborn may be kind of hard as well. I really wish I could be more help. Being as far along as you are, baby should be healthy. I hope you find your solution soon.

Hurricanes can and will cause women to go into labor! Heed the advice of your doctor and allow him to induce if he thinks it will be best! Stock up on water and food and consider staying in an emergency shelter.

dont worry about it! Its too easy to get stressed over something that you have never experienced before. .Its a really bad storm that might might put your power out but for that long is unlikely. I have a sister in flordia thats lived there for over 23 years and she laughs when people are scared of them cause I think the media puts them worst then what they are. However I would bored up those windows. that will be the best bet for you though since they do have strong winds and you dont want nothing to go threw them. . but other than that just think as it as a bad thunderstorm that will be over than you know it
