When I had my son 4 months ago the doctors told the woman in the bed beside me that you shouldn`t give babies under 3 months powdered formula - just condensed or ready to drink... is this something new?

we used the powdered formula and no one told us different and my son is 1yrs old and healthy ! and i also recommend the avent bottles. I have used 5 different bottles and then tried the avent and they were the best bottles ive ever used, and i will never use a dif bottle.

the powdered formula in cans is not sterile. so they suggest you not use it for preemies. Or a newborn with medical probs.

as long as you are on city water (not well water) then it is fine to use without boiling. you can even filter it if you want, but you dont have to. save $$$

I used ready to feed just in the hospital. I was never told to continue it's use once at home. It was definitely more convenient, but it's much more expensive. I know people that intentionally stray from powder because they have acid refulx/colic babies and the extra bubbles in the powder can increase discomfort for baby. My babies did not have that problem. I also always mix their bottles with sterilized Nursery Water.

I was told NOT to give powdered formula to a newborn wait till at least 8 weeks. I'm not sure why but that's what they said. I think it has something to do with the water.

Its not something new but I personally did find and my sister too that liquid is so much better on thier tummy and reduces colic and bubbles. I saw a huge difference in my sons when I used powder versus ready made. More gas, more burping more fussiness..So when I had to use powder I made it up ahead of time so it settled to reduce bubbles. It isnt required but the doc is suggesting something that has been shwon to be effective in helping reduce air bubbles. wwatters18 not everyone can give breast milk..

I only used powdered formula on my DS after I finished BF at 4 weeks and never heard that you are not suppose to use it at all. But I have always boiled the water first before using it to make it sterile.

its bc of air bubbles and bc of the water if you have well water, or dont boil the water first, it could be a problem i guess. i used the cans bc i didnt trust the water where i lived until i found out there was bottled water specially made for newborns, then i switched to powder =)

ive never heard that! lol powdered formula is just as good as other formula, the only thing is it might have some more bubbles, but that wouldn't matter unless you had a sensitive baby

Uh its the same thing basically. None of it is breastmilk, which I did, but also used formula which I have always used powder. I personally used avent bottles and highly recommend them. They can be pricey but definetly worth it. Take care.

I know alot of people perfer to give newborns the ready to drink formula becuase of air bubbles. I personally think that the ready to drink formula is a waste of money. i only used the powered formula and never had a problem. i also used the drop in bottles to help reduce air intake. Worked for us
