mommy2lucas - 912 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'm on the Depo Shot and for me it has been fine. I haven't gained any weight at all on it. Trust me I was scared because my cousin gained a lot when she used it, but I think it just depends on the person.

Cindie - 913 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) I'd suggest Nuvaring, It's very easy and doesn't have the risk of an IUD or an IUC of possibly porforating the uterus. The shot can come with many side effects. I've been on the shot and gained over 50 lbs. I'm not able to take pills in a timely manner either. I even forget my prenatals most times and wind up taking them at a different time every day. Nuvaring is low dose, easy to use and insert (try nuvaring.com). You can put it in for 3 weeks, then take it out for a week before putting in a new one. OR if you want to skip a period, you just take your ring out after 3 weeks and replace it with a new one. It's very easy to remove as well. The man can't feel it usually and the few times he might it's not really noticeable and never uncomfortable. It's VERY low dose and I didn't gain alot of weight on it. unfortunately I gain weight with ANY hormones even extremely low dose so my dr said that if I gained weight on nuvaring I'd gain it on any method with hormones. Nuvaring can also safely be taken out for 2-3 hrs for sex and then put back in and still have the same effectiveness at pregnancy prevention. Look it up and when you go to your OBGYN's office ask them about it and see if they can give you a few months worth of samples to try. Always give your body 3 months to get used to any birth control method you use. Also since this is hormonal and low dose, if you aren't with a significant other, and if you really DONT want to get pregnant, then if you take antibiotics while on the ring (or any method) then be sure to use condoms and maybe contraceptive foam while on the antibiotics since they can cause it to be less effective. GOOD LUCK!
