Has anyone ever been `knocked out` while pregnant for dental work? Added: 912 days ago. Added by: nutnut Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I need alot of extensive work done (all my top teeth removed and most of the bottem, the dentures put in up top, and partials down below. i dont get numb. i was wondering if anyone has ever been knocked out, or had some kind of iv sedation for extensive work while pregnant. i know most dentists will not do it, im in the Pennsylvania area if anyone knows of a good dentist that will do this sort of thing. i wanted to wait until after the baby but ive been in so much pain and am on tylenol 3 and that isnt stopping the pain. thanks!

Pain meds are relatively ok during pregnancy. Even stronger ones than Tylenol3. If they won't do any dental work for you during pregnancy then ask them for something better for the pain like Vicoden. I take Norco for a bad back which is 2x stronger than vicoden and my son is fine. my first son is also ok, and was born with no withdrawals or anything and I had to be on vicoden for the last 5 months of my pregnancy with him.

oh, that's a shame for you; i had some cavities to get filled and they were tiny, and did not require pain relief, they were just near the surface. my dentist still made me wait until 2 months after the baby was born to fill them. i would think for that kind of dental work you might need to take some heavy meds...maybe antibiotics too. Definitely ask around to local dentists though; perhaps there's an alternative that might be relatively safe considering the pain you are in.

i was told it is best to do dental work after the baby is born. heck-i wouldn't even get a filling while i was pregnant.

i had dental work and a tooth pulled during my pregnancy and I was told to just suck it up. All they would give me was 1 shot of Novacaine and it didn't help. I just took regular Tylenol because I was afraid to take T3's because of all the miscarriages I've had. Sorry! Good luck!
