When I first found out i was pregnant, i was smoking 1-1 1/2 packs a day. My doctor would not give me anything to help me quit, but rather told me to slowly cut back until I got to 0 per day. Honestly, I never got that far. I managed to get down to 3 a day, then in the third trimester, stresses got worse and i ended up smoking more. I ended up at 5-7 per day. So far my baby is doing fine, but i dont recommend smoking if you can help it. I feel guilty every time i smoke, and it has tormented me through my whole pregnancy, making pregnancy miserable. Do the best you can, try to get down as far as you can. If you have the will power to make it to zero, then i give you props. Life is stressful, especially during pregnancy, but at least youre trying. Don't beat yourself up too much over it. Stress is not good either. I just didn't have the will power to make it all the way to none. I'll pray for you. Congrats on your new baby.

i was given the patch by an NHS smoking advisor, but it didnt work for me. i ended up smoking more. i didnt with my first 2 but my partner smoked and i found it impossible to give up.......lifes stresses dont help, my older 2 children aged 15 and 5 have adhd so my stress levels are very high. my baby weighed 7lb 15 at birth, smaller than the other 2 did when i didnt smoke. so i guess it does make a difference.

I'm not really sure medically, but I would think the lozengers would be better as it's not a constant flow of nicotine into your body.

i can tell you its really really hard to quit, but worth it. i can tell you how i did it. with my first, it was easy bc the smell made me vomit. with this one, i craved them. they didnt make me sick like the first. so what i had to do was cut back and limit myslef to x amount of cigs a day, which got lower and lower over a few weeks time. then i got to the point eventually when i had only 1 or 2 a day. i would get up and snack or go for a walk or just keep busy. i would avoid certain triggers that made me want to smoke (like long drives, playing on the computer for a long time) etc. after meals at first i would force myself to wait no less than an hour before i could smoke. sometimes i could go longer , or if i ate later i could just go to bed and not smoke at all. i had to seriously work around the triggers, and if all else failed i jsut took a nap =p. its been an uphill battle but i did it. i still want to smoke sometimes, but i dont. i need to be here for my kids, so i will do my best not to start up again after baby. good luck!!! ps. i dont look down on women who smoke while pregnant bc i understand what its like to be pregnant and want to quit, but its so hard.

ask your doctor what options you have. When i first got preggo the doc gave me a lot of info & quitting smoking was in it. Luckily i had quit smoking a few months before i got preggo so i didn't have to go through that. i hope you can get some info & good luck!

unfortunately you can't. I'm in my 31st week and still looking for some sort of help to quit completely..It's SO hard. I looked into the patch and it turns out that the constant nicotine being put into your body, though your blood stream is actually considered worse than smoking. ( for the baby)
