I have a 7 month old who will not poop on his won. I give him a suppository at day 5 and he produces a poop about the lenght of my forearm. I give Kayor Syrup every mroning to attack it from the top end but nothing helps but the suppository. I am worried I am doing more harm than good. What should I do?

Mash up some banana and feed that to him everyday. Make sure he is taking in enough liquids. Juices are good. You could try sweetlime. Avoid constipating foods like biscuits or cookies, if you are giving him that. Breastfeeding can help too. If you do the suppository everytime, his body might get used to that and he won't poop without it. You could visit the paediatrician and see what they say.

My daughter had problems with constipation from day one. I used to have to give her suppositories until her doc recommended one four ounce bottle of apple prune juice with a teaspoon of Benefiber added per day. At first it gave her the runs but in about a week her little body adjusted and now she is regular as can be. I actually had to back off and give her only two ounces per day as she got more and more regular. I hope this helps. Constipation is miserable, especially for a little one. Good luck!

just to clarify - you wouldn't need to switch to a formula if you're breastfeeding - breast milk is MUCH gentler on the gut and bowels than ANY formula milk and is renowned for making babies have explosive butts.. I know you may not be breastfeeding - but I didn't want anyone else to read this and take it to be true.. I;m not all pro-breastfeeding, it's not for evberyone, but in areas of the digestive system and bowels - breastmilk is liquid gold and can do only good.

take him to the dr. you may need to change his diet, or he could have something wrong that is being worsened by the sopositories.

Take him to the doctor asap. My son ended up with an anal fissure because of being constipated and they may need you to switch formulas or to a formula if you are breast feeding. My husband and I went thru this for an entire year and trust me, you would rather go to doctor now then to find blood in their diaper or even worse... for them to have a ruptured bowel.

go to the doctor! use of too many suppositories can damage the anus' reflex, which is needed to produce spontanious bowel movements. Help him that way too many times and you will indeed do more harm than good. try gentler methods like prunes, pear juice, vaseline around the anus, or even very gently (not deeply!) "tickling" his bum with a soft q-tip. try cutting breads and meats from his diet for a few days and fill it up with fruits and veg. Good luck. (())
