Progesterone Shot Added: 200 days ago. Added by: suzeesuji Section: General. Status: This question is Closed. (Questions will be closed after 10 days.)
I am 25 weeks pregnant and had regular cervix checks to make sure that it wasnt dialating. As of last week, I have been dismissed from those appointments because my cervix is perfect. However, now at 25 1/2 weeks, my doctor wants me to get weekly progesterone shots? Why is that? They aren`t covered by insurance and I thought they were to keep the cervix hardened. Any ideas or thoughts?

The pregnancy before this one lasted until 30 weeks. w/o the pro shots or cervix. This time around they placed cerclage, prescribed shots from aug until jan and i carried and delivered 39 @wks. The shots help the body to do its job better. Mine were covered by insurance. Best wishes to you.

I have had them since week 16...I had my last baby at 28 weeks..He is fine now..but spent 7 weeks in the NICU..I wouldnt wish that on anyone..I am hirisk...well..I am now at 35 weeks and its lookin like I will carry this baby til the end...I attribute this 95% to the progesterone shots...The progesterone keeps the uterus from contracting(my interpertation)...My insurance does pay for it however...Good Luck!
