This is my first time flying with my daughter who has just turned 1 year old. Any thoughts on how to make it as `painless` as possible?!! Hubby and 6 year old son will be flying with me, but my daughter has never flown before, and she will be sitting on my lap:)Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks:)

There is a website that has these earplug type things for children 1-10 to keep their ears from popping. Its called www.onestepahead.com the item # is 07902. Hopefully that helps you some!

abbyquiet - 895 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) and keep in mind if you're panicked, so will your daughter. keep her reassured by smiling at her anytime she looks at you. when i flew with my son i read him the magazines, or just babbled to him about anything and everything. we hada flight from hawaii to california when he was a year old and several flights from north carolina to and from chicago when he was several months old. keep him fed, find something that takes a long time to eat... like cheerios, so she can feed herself, and let her play with the magazines on the plane. at some point durring our flight other people were letting their similar age toddlers run around and we were coincidentally all in the same area, so when one started crying... they all started crying. ugh.

Its-Chelle - 895 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) we flew to florida when our son was 1 1/2 yrs old last yr.(a 5 hr flight) i made sure he was drinking out of his bottle/cup during take off and landing to ease the pressure on his ears. we also flew at night so he slept on the way. going home was difficult as it was in the day. he fell asleep once in the air for an hr then woke up and he did not want to sit in his seat. thankfully we also had our daughters who were in the other 3 seats opposite of us and he sat with them and was entertained. i too ended up changing him on our seat. just bring snacks, toys, extra diapers, clothing cups/bottles on board. and bring tylenol in case of ears hurting, i had given him a dose before take offs.

megandgrace - 895 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) Its good that you have your husband going with you, that will be a lot of help because she can sit your lap or his lap when you need to get up. I flew with Grace by myself when she was 13 months old and it was a horrible experience, she was so antsy and just wanted to get up and walk around. Also i think the pressure hurt her ears a lot so she was fussy and crying most of the time. The only times i got her to stop and relax was when i was feeding her snacks or reading books. Also having a bottle and or a binky should help with their ears, the problem with Grace was that she didn't want nothing to do with drinking on the way there but on the way home she drank so much her diaper leaked on me!! The other problem i found was that there is no proper place to change their diapers on some planes but since your husband and son are with you, they can get up and you can use their seats. I had a nice lady sitting next me on the way there that got up so i could change Grace but a not very nice lady on the way back! Also the timing of the flight should be just right too, i thought that flying during nap time would be best because she would be tired but i think that it made it worse because she wouldn't sleep on the plane. By having others with you will help a lot, flying alone with a 1 year old was hard for me ad i wish i had someone else with me!
