I am thirty weeks and have to go in for the 3 hour test. I am just wondering f is caused partially by eating a lot of suagary foods? I was always told this as a child. I am overweight so I know that would be part of it.

I eat a lot of carbs/high natural sugar foods like, rice, peas, breads, etc. However, just b/c you have to go for the 3 hour test, doesn't mean you have it. I would say at least 75% of the people i know had to go for the 3 hr test and i would say only 50% of those people actually had GD. If you do have it, i highly suggest seeing a dietition (spelling?). they helped me a lot with both understanding true portion size but also figuring out a good control of the GD. Exercise is a huge key. During both my pregnancies i would take a 30 minute walk every day after lunch. It did wonders for the GD and my overall health. Between the MS and the GD i was happy to say i controlled my weight gain well. With my first pregnancy i lost so much from MS and gained so little from the GD that i only netted a 3lb gain from conception to birth :-)

They turn to sugar in our bodies and when we are pregnant, we sometimes cannot make enough insulin to process it. I had GD and was induced at 39 weeks and 1 day. I monitored 4 times a day. The good thing - I gained the minimal amount of weight while pregnant and felt great all the time.

blondie9504 - 893 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It's not just sugary foods, it's all carbohydrates too(bread, pasta etc..) I had GD too but my sugar at it's highest went to 186 and that was with the 3 hour test. The glucola itself was my problem. I ate cheesecake and anything else I wanted and my sugar never went over 115. I had to check my sugar 5 times a day and it was usually around 90. They say GD makes you more prone to have an "oversized" baby, but I went into labor naturally on my due date and the next night I had my little girl that was 6 lbs and 11 oz and 20.5 inches long. But I just kept real close watch on my sugar because I was determined to not take any medicine for it if I could help it. Good luck!
