did a positive group b strepp test cause any problems for you or baby? I read that babies from positive moms will stay in the hospital for 48 hours to be monitored for signs of GBS, is this true? Thank you for your help.

luvmyboy - 889 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It is very rare for a baby to get the step B weather or not the mom has antibiotics but it is definately worth getting the antibiotics. I had strep b and was given antibiotics I think they test the baby after birth to make sure it didn't get it. I was in the hospital for more then 48 hours but it was due to hemorrhaging which had nothing to do with the group b strep. hope that helps!

happyforest - 890 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) i just got antibiotics during labor and was fine. i did stay 48 hours bc i wanted to not bc i had to

mariettap - 890 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) This is true. I do know a person who was GBS+ and refused to do the antibiotics during labor, and her son became critically ill, requiring an extended hospital stay in the NICU. It's rare, but potentially serious, which is why the do the antibiotics. I was GBS+ but someone mis-read my chart and failed to administer the antibiotics. I asked mymidwife about it, she re-checked the chart, and came back fuming angry w/ the nurse for the error. She got the antibiotics rolling and as it happened, 7 mins later my baby was born. We were required to stay the full 48 hrs, even though I had hoped for an early discharge. Since we did without the benefit of the full antibiotics (7 mins doesn't count!), they wanted to dot their i's after the birth. Similar thing happened to a friend who simply had such a speedy delivery that she couldn't hold the baby in any longer, so she got very little of the medicine. Her baby turned out healthy as well.

Julianna - 890 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) You just have to have IV antibiotics while in labor. I was out of the hospital less than 36 hours after my son's birth

meecob - 890 days ago Rating: 0 (0 votes) It didn't cause any serious problems for me or babe...it was just slightly inconvenient to have an IV in while I was in labor - Good luck :)
